TransCanada considers Quebec pipeline project

MONTREAL - Enbridge isn’t the only pipeline company looking at moving Alberta oil to Quebec.

TransCanada Ltd. is studying the possibility of converting a natural-gas pipeline in its Mainline pipeline network between Alberta and Quebec to carry crude oil instead, spokesperson Grady Semmens said.

TransCanada’s pipeline ends at Montreal, and Semmens said the company is looking at whether there’s a market for extending the line to Quebec City or St. John, N.B.

Premier Pauline Marois announced Monday that Quebec would be open to the TransCanada project, and has set up a committee to study its implications for the province.
