A judge ruled last week that the police involved in the brutal 2011 crackdown on Occupy protesters at the UC Berkeley campus will face charges for excessive force, false arrest, retaliatory prosecution and abuse of process.
According to Courthouse News:
A group of 29 then sued school police, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office and the Oakland Police Department They said university officials had set in motion or ignored the police action that caused their injuries.
U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers last week found the allegations sufficient against some officers who were directly involved in alleged beating of protestors, but she dismissed claims against supervisors and others not directly involved.
The police attempted to have the case thrown out but the evidence of battering peaceful demonstrators was too overwhelming to drop the claim. The short video below was taken on campus the day in question and unmistakably shows that excessive force took place:

Obama regarding Egypt's protesters:
"Addressing the nation from the White House after a day of rage across Egypt, Mr. Obama said he called Mr. Mubarak and told him 'to refrain from any violence against peaceful protesters' and to turn a 'moment of volatility' into a 'moment of promise.' Declaring that the protesters have universal rights, he said, 'The United States will continue to stand up for the rights of the Egyptian people.'"

Obama regarding America's protesters:
How Big a Deal is H.R. 347, That Criminalizing Protest Bill?
"These restricted areas include locations where individuals under Secret Service protection are temporarily located, and certain large special events like a presidential inauguration. They can also include large public events like the Super Bowl and the presidential nominating conventions (troublingly, the Department of Homeland Security has significant discretion in designating what qualifies as one of these special events)."

Obama signs bill, gets Secret Service protection for life
"With the stroke of a pen Thursday, President Barack Obama gave himself and his wife Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives."

(634 posts)Were, of course, the set up for the IMF's debt slave program. I think Kerry is trying to talk them into taking the money right now.
Is it just me? Or is the occupy forum the only one without sycophantic toadies, blindly following the President. You know, the ones who always say" I trust Obama; you should
not question him. He is a Democrat, for christ' sake! "
It is difficult to even read some of these posts.
OK, I'm done whining...

(38,893 posts)And you are right: World Bank and IMF are slavers. I hope Egypt sends them packing. Thanks for the clarity!
And Occupy are willing, for the most part, to look beyond the dog and pony show (sorry, donkey and elephant show) to point at the man behind the curtain and call him out. Most people don't want real change until they have nothing left to lose (and of course, the slavers have plans to take advantage of any eventual uprisings, such as done in Greece with installing a neo-NAZI political "party" . Some of us are wiling to question the emperor's new clothes. Hopefully we all can get together and fix this crap. Peace!

(268 posts)It is nonsense for the government to drag such cases out. Yet again it is also nonsense for the government to drop charges on Occupy member due to the fact the government knows they will loss and dare not have the precedent on the books!
Fire Walk With Me
(38,893 posts)And you are correct. Although these victories have been very long in coming and were hard-fought, combined they set a precedent supporting Occupy tactics and philosophy, opening the door for more of the same
