Is my wife in danger from ICE?

My wife is a naturalized U.S. citizen. She was born in Colombia. She speaks English with an accent. Most people would identify her as Hispanic.

We are planning a cross-country driving trip, going through several Southern states, including Texas on Interstate 10. We plan to carry our U.S. passports with us and her U.S. citizenship certificate.

Are we at risk of being stopped and questioned, and possibly detained by ICE or any other law enforcement?

2. I would not carry her citizenship certificate. That document is

unique and is irreplaceable. Her US passport is prima facie evidence of her US citizenship (as is yours). Unfortunately as you will be spending a great deal of time within 100 miles of a border you do stand the possibility of being stopped by ICE.

3. Take a photocopy instead.

4. The only problem with that approach is that photocopying

the citizenship certificate is illegal. The US passport is more than sufficient. The advice to try and stay more than 100 miles from the border is a good one. However, the writer says that they are travelling on US 10 - that goes very near the coast through the Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, Lousiana and Texas so that might not be practical.

5. Can you reroute around TX ? If you have passports that would be good . Double copies about

everything made. Probably nothing will happen if you do not speed or make any scenes but I mention TX becuz so many people black and brown have told me they try to avoid TX on trips due to stories they know...but police not ICE stories and out of state license plates sometimes get a second glance no matter where anyone goes in any state so tail lights etc all checked before the road trip is a good idea
