I'm sure this is operator error, but every time I attempt to pay for a yearly membership with CC, I get directed to a foreign Paypal page. What am I doing wrong? I am using the link on DU. This is frustrating.

(22,645 posts)Are you using a VPN by any chance? I'm guessing not, but that might explain why the PayPal page you're seeing is in a different language. What language is the PayPal page in?
Also, are you logged into PayPal when this happens, or are you making the payment as a guest? (From what you wrote above, it sounds like the latter.)
I'll alert Elad to this and see if he can figure it out. (FWIW, I don't think this is anything nefarious -- it's more likely to be a random PayPal quirk.)

(22,032 posts)I do not recognize the language and I didn't think to do a translate. No, I am not logged onto Paypal when I attempt this. I am using the option that is for a one time payment because I do not want to use Paypal if I don't have to. Thank you for your help.

(22,645 posts)I suspect the VPN might be causing the issue. Your best bet would be to turn off the VPN just for this transaction, but if you must use it, you could try switching to a different proxy server in a different (US) location. Theres a chance that PayPal will act squirrelly if it doesnt like the IP address youre connecting from.
Ive asked Elad to check into this thread (its still a little early on the west coast though).
