DU Community Help
Related: About this forumDU bookmarks not working for me.
I just realized this because I wanted to go back to a thread I had just bookedmarked, and there was nothing whatsoever under my bookmarks. Help?

(22,645 posts)According to our database you do have a bunch of bookmarks, with the most recent one being created today. That's the good news. If you're not seeing them on your Bookmarks page though, we need to figure out what's going on there.
This is a link to your Bookmarks page (don't worry -- if anyone else goes to this link they'll see their own bookmarks, not yours):
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=myaccount&sub=bookmarks
When you arrive at that link, you should be on the "Chronological" view, which is the default. It will say "Chronological" at the top of the page, and the Chronological button in the "Bookmarks view" section should be lit up.
When you arrive at that link, are you seeing a blank page? Is there any content on the page at all? Is there a message saying there aren't any bookmarks? Do you see any error messages?
As mentioned, your bookmarks are definitely stored in the database, so you haven't lost them. If they're not showing at the link above though, I'll have to ask Elad to take a look at why they're not displaying.

Your Bookmarks are not public. Only you can view this page.

(2,159 posts)I'm using Samsung's browser on my phone. When I tried it in Firefox focus, it worked.
It should work in both. The default browser on a Samsung phone should just be Chrome, but I haven't heard from anyone else with this issue on a mobile Chrome browser. I wonder if a privacy extension or a security setting on your phone might be causing this (although I'm not sure why it would).
These issues which seem to only affect one person can often be hard to diagnose, because if it's unique to your device then it's hard for me to reproduce the problem, and it's very difficult to solve a problem if I can't see or experience it for myself. On my phone (which is an iPhone) using Chrome, the Bookmarks page is appearing normally.
Are you seeing any weirdness on any other pages, or just Bookmarks?
The good news is that your bookmarks are still there, and while you shouldn't have to use another browser to access them, at least there is a workaround so you can get to them. I'm sorry this is happening, but at the moment I'm afraid I'm don't how to fix it...

(2,159 posts)My guess is that it probably is a privacy extension or setting. I used the Electronic Frontier Foundation's page to lock everything down as tight as I could.

Oddly enough, though, I locked down every browser I use, including Firefox Focus, and it touts itself to be about as private as you can get without tweaking. Although I found out that some browsers that tout their privacy shouldn't, using EFF's tool.

(11,463 posts)Sometimes I have this setup deliberately - I use the not-logged in browser (usually my Chrome browser) to view pages when I just want to quickly catch up on the news and what's going on, but don't want to be distracted by the "My Posts" tab being lit and having to deal with responses.
Normally I use my logged in browser (usually Edge).
EDITED TO ADD: If I'm not logged in and I click on my saved bookmark in Chrome "My DU Bookmars" which I saved amongst a half dozen helpful DU-related ones, it just gives me DU's login page, so what I said above probably doesn't apply to what you're seeing. Sorry.

(2,159 posts)I stay logged in on my customary browser unless DU logs me out for some reason. It's really easy to tell when it does, because it reverts to the colorful format, whereas I prefer the old school look.

(22,645 posts)The only thing is that if you're not signed in and you go to the Bookmarks page, typically you get sent to the Sign In page... that's what happened when I tried it just now. But perhaps it is possible to bypass this, in which case, yeah, it makes sense that you'd just get a blank page.

(2,159 posts)It's really obvious when I'm not, because it reverts to the colorful format and I prefer old school. Anyway, no big deal, and I sure understand how difficult it is to track down a one-off like this, so please don't give it another thought.
And thank you for responding and for giving me the thought to try another browser, which of course should have been the first thing I did.
