Open Google Chrome.
Go to Settings.
Click Advanced > Languages.
To the right of Spell check, turn it on or off.

I thought this was a setting inside DU. I seem to recall activating it when the new site went live.

To turn off automatic spell-checking in Firefox, you can do the following:
Click Firefox in the menu bar at the top of the screen
Select Preferences or Settings
Go to the Language section in the General panel
Uncheck Check your spelling as you type
Close the Settings page

As with everythhing Firefox location and menus change with each generation, but I did find it!!
