DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHello from Elad
My name is Brian, and I'm the programmer for Democratic Underground. I found the site through a random link in 2001 and joined immediately. Soon I volunteered to help with a couple projects, and eventually became the full time programmer.
I live in Portland, OR with my girlfriend and two cats. I spend my free time gardening, playing disc golf, and working out.

(9,612 posts)as you are obviously beyond help if you've been with this site that long.
In all seriousness, thank you for the new "Welcome & Help" forum. Do you want apparent glitches posted here or in "the other place?"

(11,406 posts)I'm going to say that glitches fall into the category of needing help, so in this forum would be best.
Things have been running smoothly lately, but you know what it's like when you get up to around 100,000 lines of code; gremlins sneak in.

(20,616 posts)"EarlG" seems self-explanatory, and I've always assumed "Skinner" came from Bart's principal...

(60,603 posts)We lived in Seattle for a year (wonderful year, I was a post doc, so we had no money - but did everything that was free or nearly so!).
Vacationed in Portland, then from Astoria down to Yachats, a few years ago - best vacation of our lives.

(55,981 posts)Sorry, I just had to.
I would say welcome but you been here longer than I.
I was raised in Portland, went to both Franklin and Marshall Hi Schools. What section of Portland do you live if you dont mind my askin. My wife graduated from Clackatraz.
I live in Seattle area now but we go back often. Esp to the Pearl Dist. (Three breweries within blocks)
I dont care if you have a girl friend or not, but if you have two cats, you must be ok. Cats will keep you humble.
Excuse me but I have to go let my cat out for the fourth time in the last 1/2 hour.

(55,921 posts)We have absolutely nothing in common except politics. I live in the desert and use a very slow dial-up connection. Totally clueless to the magic of the internets and these fancy machines.
But I sure like your work! Best discussion site I have ever looked at (not that I have seen a whole lot as DU takes up the vast majority of my online time...hey another thing in common LOL)

(5,376 posts)When I first found the site and signed on, I lived east of where I now reside, in a county that passed an ordinance banning the United Nations. Never was quite sure how that was gonna work, but since so many folks were so well-armed I decided it was time for me to don my blue helmet and get the hell outa there. Knew some environmentalists who actually had to dodge bullets on occasion. Skeery! Anyway, before that I spent many years in the Willamette Valley, loved and still love Portland, and still love DU. Thanks to you, Skinner and EarlG for keepin' it going!

(18,998 posts)And I have to say your work on DU3 is great...there are many features I love but most of all the My Posts page....that is a great improvement.
You have a site you can be proud of...and I know you are.

(21,653 posts)Born here. Best place in the world. I live in the Alameda neighborhood. For a relatively small city, there seem to be a lot of DUers from Portland.
