Request: Growing the Group

Because of risk of inciting further disruption both from within DU and from the many right-wing boards that send trolls to DU, I think it's better to not start OP's in GD or W&H announcing the new group although that thought has crossed my mind. Instead, I think our best course for getting great posters to come to this group is peer-to-peer. If you know someone on DU who would appreciate having a controlled place to discuss gun control reform activism, please invite them on the board or send them a PM because they very well may not know we have this group.

Anyways, things seemed to have cooled off just a bit and I think that's great, but just because we're not being actively disrupted doesn't mean we should be low-energy and low-content. So let's keep it up people - change isn't quick and this fight isn't easy but the issues are so damn important. YEEEAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

Right now we're at 87 subscribers and 12 trashing, let's double that!

The only thing is, how do we know if someone isn't already in the group? Do you think we should send a PM to people we think might be interested, or indicate it in a response in a thread?

You could ask them - "hey have you subscribed" - the worst that can happen is they'll be like "yes, cool thanks" - I think that's an excellent way to go about it but if you don't feel comfortable doing that starting with your friends on DU is a great way to go about it (I have friends on DU as well as enemies ).

I'd maybe PM in like GD and post in some of the likeminded groups - for example the Democracy for America Group or Socialist Progressives.

I think most of the people who've subscribed either saw the ATA threads or posts from Latest/Greatest.

What we definitely don't want is a positive "Hey we have a new group post in GD" becoming a shit-fest.

So peer-to-peer marketing it is!

Our OPs appear in "Latest Threads" just like any other. The better we make them, the more informative and stimulating the discussion is, the more we'll grow.

Thanks for this thread.

To stop any flame wars with those not agreeing- Use the POWER of the special group/forum
hosting ability-just delete the post.
Make it 100% ZERO tolerance, and you know what, you don't even need to give a reason.
And make another ZERO tolerance for any whine afterward.
Why beat around the bush? We all are adult enough to know who is for even 10% change, and who wants zero change, and perhaps even LESS rather than more.
People's own words show it.

Another thing-skinner in the ATA said something to someone about NO gun porn.
Adhere to that.
NO more of those stupid large pictures of guns, or one gun on top of another.
I do believe NO ONE on this thread cares about the stupid, detracting, minutia.

Guns and bullets all do the same thing, kill someone or something.
So adhere tot he SOP and NONE of that gun porn photos that end up ending all threads.

In actuality, what there should be is more hosts, even if somehow, those additional ones do not have the ability to do anything, just so more private discussion can be held.

Damn thing is everything like this thread is for all eyes.
Would be better if this was done covertly and just open to specific.

BTW,another trick people have used since CONN, not mentioned on any prior post I wrote,
is that more of the pro-NRA, pro-2nd, pro-gun posters are not posting in their section at all,
and attempting to cover up what side of the argument they are on, by heavily posting in
a specific other area, and camouflaging their intent wrapped in another issue, like the
pro-NRA congress people do adding ryders to a bill that has nothing to do with guns.
I know who I argued against last year about guns. And I marvel that they don't show up in their own section anymore, so their chatter can't be heard there.

Very pleased to see this group and that you have started something for those of us who want positive and supportive ideas for gun control. I'm sorry, I do not know what "subscribing" means.
