Personally, I prefer the element of surprise.

The only reason to own such a weapon is either to intimidate someone, or to kill someone. And that makes the owner a de facto asshole.

It's a wonder they don't have a model pre-covered in blood.

do not own any guns at all, much less one designed specifically for killing large numbers of people. A gun purchase is a direct contribution to the right-wing gun lobby, and in turn the Republican Party.

Democrats, on the other hand, would rather buy products that contribute to the health and welfare of society and to improving the environment. Guns do just the opposite.

7. Interestingly enough Eugene Stoner, the man who designed the AR 15, never owned one either.

His family has spoken about it and said that he designed it for the military and never imagined it being marketed to the public. In fact they said that he would be appalled at the carnage his gun has wreaked on civilians in America.

10. Tyranny of the paranoid minority

guillaume: Why millions of Americans — including me — do not own the AR-15
First, because the country has a standing army to provide for the common defense. Thus eliminating the actual reason for the Second Amendment.
Second, because most areas have an actual police and a State national Guard force to deal with local defense issues.

Oddly enough, Guillaume, the reasons you do not want to own one, standing army, cops & national guards, are the latent underlying reasons too many assault rifle owners indeed want to own them. For fear of a tyrannical police state, or tyrannical standing army, floating navy & flying air force.
Assault rifles are the only way unorganized militia mobs can fight back against tyranny - comparable small arms fire against oncoming US soldiers & marines equipped with military issue assault rifles. Since unorganized mobs cannot legally acquire anything to combat against ships & planes, less yet tomahawk missiles, they covet small arms as a security blanket (a false sense of security blanket).
Assault rifles are the only solution, and forget about those cosmetic reasons they give - varmint hunting, target shooting, home defense - all just concoctions to hide the underlying reason fear of a tyrannical govt, generally a democratic one too.
The prospect of tyranny cannot be suppressed by the paranoid minority, without assault rifles!
