Maine restaurant owner bans AR-15 backers: ‘I used the loudest voice I knew to shout my outrage’
Gun lovers threatened to boycott a Maine restaurant this week after it banned assault rifle owners and people who support owning the military-style weapons for personal use.
In a Facebook posting, Anne Verrill explained why she was banning some gun owners from her Foreside Tavern & Side Bar in Falmouth and Grace restaurant in Portland.
I have spent 12 years, intentionally, not being political on this page, Verrill wrote on the Grace Facebook page. Let me be clear, this is not a political issue. This is a human rights issue. If you own this gun, or you condone the ownership of this gun for private use, you may no longer enter either of my restaurants, because the only thing I want to teach my children is love.
Verrill included a photo of what appeared to be an AR-15 assault rifle with her post.
I cannot, in good conscience, accept anyone inside of my restaurants who believes that this is OK, she said.

Another fed up American taking action against the right-wing gun culture and their promotion of lethal weapons in our society. Incidentally, despite calls for boycotts of her restaurants by the gun nuts in Maine, both of her establishments are receiving support from the public, and business is just fine.
We CAN stand up to the gun enablers, and reverse the damage done to our communities over the past few decades by ALEC-sponsored corrupt legislators at all levels of government. Vote for a Democrat who hasn't pandered to the ILA/NRA criminals.

(670 posts)1. I don't understand why she limited herself to the AR-15.
Why not ban folks who believe handguns are covered under the 2nd Amendment? Handguns are used in violent crimes way more than rifles like the AR-15.

(6,641 posts)2. Ah, the old NRA argument
that long guns are seldom used in "violent crimes." I believe that you may be in the wrong Group, so please read the SOP for this Group.
