Gun control goes on the ballot
http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/291302-gun-control-goes-on-the-ballotVoters in four states will decide ballot measures relating to gun control this November. In Maine and Nevada, voters will decide whether to expand background check requirements to include private gun sales.
In Washington, voters will decide whether to take guns out of the hands of people who are subject to extreme risk protection orders, which include restraining orders and people at risk of suicide.
And in California, voters will decide whether to ban the possession of large-capacity magazines. The California measure, Proposition 63, would also require individuals to pass a background check before purchasing ammunition.
When the voters have a chance to make their voices heard over the NRA/ILA owned Republican congress they win.

(68,261 posts)When the Federal Assault Weapons Ban went into effect, the NRA stopped lobbying Congress, and started focussing on state legislatures, which is how we got the rash of "Stand your Ground" - (murder permitted) bills passed.
Well, now the states are fighting back.

(6,641 posts)to write complete packages of bogus "Protect the Second Amendment" legislative bills, ready made for introduction and signing. These boiler-plate pieces of legislation were given to City Councils, and State Legislatures in almost every state. ALEC was the developer and distributor of almost all Stand-Your-Ground, Concealed/Open-Carry, and No-Wait laws across the nation.
These laws set the stage for vigilantism by assholes like Zimmerman to take the law into their own hands and get away with it. Now we must work very hard to repeal these obscene anti-American, pro right-wing gun lobby laws and return to some sense of normalcy in our neighborhoods.
Vote for anti-NRA Democrats at all levels of government, and help to stop the gun madness in this country.
