As firearm ownership rises, Florida gun murders increase
Only partial numbers are available for 2012, but from January to June, there were 479 murders in Florida 358 of them committed with a gun. Thats an 8 percent increase in gun murders compared to the same period in 2011.
Guns are now the weapons of choice in 75 percent of all homicides in Florida. Thats up from 56 percent in 2000.
The rise in gun homicides in Florida comes at a time when the overall murder rate has declined in Florida, and violent crime has dropped statewide.

a gunner told me that Florida was the safest state in the nation because everybody has a gun. Now I'm confused...

Central Florida has long history of violent biker gangs
11:23 a.m. EST, October 8, 2012|
By Henry Pierson Curtis and Amy Pavuk, Orlando Sentinel
Outlaw bikers have been around Central Florida longer than Walt Disney World.
For more than 40 years, local bikers blew up rivals' headquarters, sold guns and dope and shot at one another. The heyday for violence appeared over in the 1990s, after federal investigations and prosecutions resulted in numerous convictions of Warlocks, Outlaws and members of other "outlaw motorcycle gangs."
That calm ended a week ago in Seminole County with the killings of three members of the Warlocks at a charity fundraiser in Winter Springs, a typically quiet Orlando-area bedroom community.
Police reports blame the killings on members of the "Philly" Warlocks who opened fire on Warlocks from Orlando, Lake County and a visiting member from Louisiana. Yet many questions remain about who shot first and why the four men charged with murder immediately waived their Miranda rights and spoke to police about the shooting. What they said remains a mystery.
And there's no explanation yet for the rift that prompted former Warlocks President David "Tin Man" Maloney and others charged with murder to form the splinter group wearing a different "Philly" Warlocks patch to challenge bikers once considered their brothers . http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-10-08/news/os-warlocks-central-florida-20121005_1_warlocks-outlaws-motorcycle-club-biker

(20,930 posts)Does this meet group SOP?
Discuss how to enact progressive gun control reform in a supportive environment. The group serves as a safe haven in which to mobilize supporters in support of measures reducing gun violence by changing laws, culture and practice at the municipal, state, and federal levels. While there is no single solution to the tragic epidemic of gun violence, members agree that more guns are not the solution to gun violence, and are expected to be supportive of the policies of progressive gun control reform organizations.
or should it be here
Discuss gun politics, gun control laws, the Second Amendment, the use of firearms for self-defense, and the use of firearms to commit crime and violence.

(6,641 posts)You want to come here from the Gungeon and dictate what we post in the Gun Control Reform Activism Group? That's really the height of arrogance Bubba.
This OP is relevant to the Group's goals and aims, and meets the SOP in that it points out the dangers of the proliferation of gunz, and supports the statement that "members agree that more guns are NOT the solution to gun violence."
Now run back to the Gungeon and laugh it up with your buddies about how you really trashed the "grabbers" Group, and maybe they will make you feel important.

(20,930 posts)I generally stay quite here and respect the SOP. I usually only post about the GC I support.
I subscribed here on when the post count was 2. Back then there was talk about transparency in blocking and adherence to SOP so this group would not actually be an echo chamber.
I am offering a chance for introspection. If a host wants to tell me this post is in SOP, fine; I will accept that.

(6,641 posts)Nice try... The OP was written by a Host, and I suspect that you know that.

(20,930 posts)And I think Robbie can speak for himself; or are hosts above question?
Question for you; do you ever reply without insult or a belittling term?

(6,641 posts)but not so much when replying to a Gungeoneer on a mission to disrupt.

(23,973 posts)skyrocketing gun ownership and the resulting increase in murder by firearms.
You ignore the OP and because the facts make you uncomfortable, and try to derail the discussion.
Why?
sarisataka
(20,930 posts)Why-IMO this article is much more about guns used in crime and violence. GC is a very minor point in the article.
Other a thread was locked earlier this week that was near 100% about FCC but it made people uncomfortable because it was from a much more progun origin. Yet it did discuss GC...
billh58
(6,641 posts)motives for posting on this, and other threads in this Group, is to disrupt and spout NRA Gungeon "talking points." Your use of "GC" (equates to grabber) label gives you away Bubba, and NRA "pro-gun" views are not welcome here.
Get over yourself...

(20,930 posts)I have made in this group that I state opposition to GC.
You are quite entertaining with your analysies, i type GC because i am using my phone and that is easier. Would I be proGC if I type 2A?
Edit - since I have no intention of taking your bait, know I am not ignoring you. Robb or the other hosts may answer my question or not as they choose.
You may have the last word.

(39,665 posts)Information which supports basic tenets of the gun control movement -- and which counter the arguments of the gun-rights proponents -- serves to inspire and mobilize supporters.
Further, I know you think you're skating around on some kind of technicality, but hosts are not bound by them. You're clearly disrupting, you're clearly not supportive of progressive gun control groups, and getting cutesy about it doesn't change things.
This is the part where I tell you, with great transparency, that you're blocked from posting in this safe haven group; feel free to appeal to the other hosts if you think you've been treated unfairly. My position is that you were given much leeway, and decided regardless to be disruptive. Perhaps one of them feels differently.

(53,607 posts)Yet they just can't control themselves and insist on coming here even though they do not support this group's goals, in violation of the TOS. Kinda scary to think people with so little self-control like that have guns.

(46,192 posts)1) is the problem with the culture in that more guns make us less safe and changing the minds that think that more guns make us more safe.
2) is the problem of laws in FL that make gun ownership easier, with less restriction and associated laws which make gun use, even with innocent victims, easier to get away with.
if you think this OP doesn't belong in this group due to the SOP, then you haven't read the SOP.
