Cultural competency for gunners?
I work in the public sector and about every six months we have to take cultural competency courses because of the diversity of our client population.
I notice in the gun debates most gunners have one mantra. That is 2nd Amendment rights first foremost and forever. Never mind what the rest of society thinks about guns being permitted everywhere.
I know it will never happen but what if before buying a gun you had to take a cultural awareness class that would let you know how other people feel if you show up at Walmart and a loaded gun fell out of your pants. Or the fact that people are afraid of people walking around with a gun in their belt.
There was a saying that your rights stopped at my nose.
My nose is your gun in my presence as far as I am concerned.

(20,839 posts)their guns costs money - that is when it will be taken seriously. The loser who shows off his gun at a little league game could all of a sudden start shooting but that will not make a difference. When events are canceled because losers show up with their weapons and revenue is lost - that is when it will be addressed.

(54,770 posts)Sadly, I don't think most gun fanciers -- particularly toters -- care if people don't like it. In fact, that is probably one reason these intimidators/bullies get such a kick out of strutting around with a gun. For many, it's their singular achievement in life.
