Open Carry bill fails in Texas
LOL. In TX even.
After pledging in his campaign to fight for open carry of handguns in Texas, Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick now says it's not a priority and doesn't have the votes to pass.
The issue seemed to be gaining strong momentum for the 2015 session with support from Gov. Greg Abbott, Patrick and other top Republicans who swept into office in November. But Patrick doused the hopes of gun rights advocates with his remarks Tuesday at a forum hosted by the Texas Tribune.

(8,322 posts)The bill has not failed yet. We're two weeks into a six-month legislative session, and the rookie LG -- the most batshit TeaBagger any of you outside Texas can imagine -- just stepped in a steaming pile by saying he didn't think it would pass. He's going to be "corrected" shortly.
Don't get enthused about this bill being ultimately voted down, either. We're in deep shit down here, it's getting worse, and it's coming to your state very soon.
Sorry to piss on anybody's parade.

Any one who thinks anything sane will come from the current Legislature in Austin just doesn´t recognize CRAZY.
Thank you PDittie.
Sorry about that.

(14,559 posts)Thay went door to door at the capitol visiting congress critters and generally making asses of themselves by threatening anyone not supporting the bill and refusing to leave offices when asked. Open Carry Texas leaders characterized the Open Carry Tarrant President as "competing for jackass of the year". The legislature installed panic buttons in all representative's offices immediately after the incident. Now they all have a reminder of just how batshit crazy these assholes are in case they should forget.
Keep up the good work! The gun violence movement needs supporters like you!

(28,734 posts)Dan Patrick, of all people, claiming that Texas gun rights are not a priority? Genuinely stunning. I'm sure this isn't the end of this matter, but it's gratifying, for the time being.
