Two days ago it appeared that the gun control legislation in Virginia

would not pass. The pending bill would restrict possession of guns from people with more than two violent misdemeanors and those with restraining orders.

Immediately the NRA/ILA signaled victory which was repeated by Breitbart, The Blaze, Ammoland, the Daily Caller and two dozen other pro gun echo chambers.

Well, the rumor of McAuliffe's center piece legislation's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

With a few tweeks and some honest negotiation with the opposition, it passed.

It's a rhetorical question. Never mind...

and the only thing that keeps hundreds of them from storming your house is your gun. Why should these people with restraining orders suffer the horrific invasion?

Or at least, teeming hordes was the argument about why magazine size could not be limited.

Yeah, as usual, the left position actually can call a compromise a compromise, whereas the right has no real understanding of the word.

The proposal from Sen. Barbara A. Favola (D-Arlington) failed Monday but was granted a new vote because of confusion over its fate. In the intervening days, Favola limited the misdemeanor crimes involved to only those involving domestic violence.
Previously, brandishing a weapon or any two misdemeanors could cost a perpetrator the right to possess a firearm. Lawmakers on the Republican-dominated Courts of Justice Committee also narrowed the time an offender is barred from applying for restitution of his or her gun rights from five years to one.

Brandishing & misdemeanoring I can live with, but reducing 'restoration of gun rights' from a 5 yr wait to one year, which side really won this? Let's go have a pyrrhic victory party.

Dems say assault guns allowed in Va. Capitol while balloons are banned

Jan 26th, 2015 House Democrats in the General Assembly have launched a petition drive to show public support for a package of pending gun control bills.
The online entreaty calls for "common sense gun laws" and, to foster the contention that Virginia’s firearm policies are awry, contains a white and blue graphic of some of the rules regarding public entrance to the state capitol.
On the left side of the graphic is the headline "Banned in the Virginia State Capitol." Underneath are pictures of a bullhorn, a trumpet, a floating helium balloon and an American flag on a pole.
The right side says, "Allowed in the Virginia State Capitol." Underneath are pictures of a handgun, a rifle, and two assault guns.

The basic rules for entering the {Richmond} Capitol are spelled out in these words: "Possession or use of any device that may disrupt the conduct of business is prohibited, including, but not limited to: voice-amplification equipment; bullhorns; blow horns; sirens, or other noise-producing devices as well as signs on sticks, poles or stakes, or helium-filled balloons."
That confirms two of four items Democrats said were banned. But what about trumpets? .. they would generally not be allowed since they fall into the realm of "noise-producing devices.".. exceptions can be made, such as for a memorial service... flags are allowed to be brought into the building, but not if they’re hoisted on poles. The image on the Democrat’s petition shows a flag on a pole.
.. the rules apply to everyone, including members of the legislature as well as the general public.

Firearms -- We couldn’t find any rules about bringing guns into the Capitol... But they do exist. .. possession is limited to three groups: General Assembly members, law enforcement officials and any holder of a valid concealed handgun permit.
Could someone bring an assault rifle into the Capitol? If he is allowed to bring in a firearm, the answer is yes .. The 2004 rule "simply says ‘firearm’, so it’s fairly broad," "It doesn’t just say that the only thing they can bring in is a handgun even though that’s what’s covered by the (concealed) handgun permit."
