Strong Regulations on Gun Sales Prevent High-Risk Individuals From Accessing Firearms and Can Reduce

http://www.newswise.com/articles/strong-regulations-on-gun-sales-prevent-high-risk-individuals-from-accessing-firearms-and-can-reduce-violent-crime-study-finds

The U.S. has the highest rate of firearm homicides among high-income countries, nearly 20 times higher than the average of other high-income countries. In 2013, a total of 11,208 firearm homicides occurred in the U.S., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Earlier research from Webster which was included in this review found that the type of firearm policy most consistently associated with curtailing the diversion of guns to criminals is permit-to-purchase for handguns: Missouri’s repeal of its permit-to-purchase law resulted in a 25-percent increase in firearm homicides during the first three years and four months following the repeal, and a 14-percent increase in murder rates over five years after the repeal.

This is s review of gun violence studies between 1999 and 2014. It has the name Bloomberg associated with it so the resident gungeoneers will use that as an excuse to completely ignore it.

We can do something about gun violence. Permit to purchase with background checks on all sales of guns along with removing guns from domestic abuse situations will make a huge difference and none of this will affect "law abiding citizens".

You may ask yourself how anyone could argue against removing guns from people with restraining orders for domestic abuse. It takes about two weeks to get a hearing before a judge after a restraining order is issued. The NRAphobics are terrified that someone might falsely accuse an ammosexual of domestic abuse and take the precious guns away for TWO WHOLE WEEKS before they can appear before a judge to get them back. My God, the horror of living 14 days without a gun is simply too much to contemplate for these people.

We can do something about gun violence. Call your congresscritter, email them and lather, rinse and repeat. Support a gun violence group of your choice any way you can. You can find a list here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/126269
