OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new state law signed Tuesday could prevent situations like the one that cost a Spokane woman her life last year.

Sheena Henderson was killed by her husband with a weapon police had given back to him without her knowledge.

A year later – the newly-signed “Sheena Henderson Act” will allow family members to ask police to tell them if a person with mental health or domestic violence issues is about to be given back a gun police took away.

The bill passed both legislative chambers unanimously.

1. So all the police have to do is inform a person if their abuser is getting his gun back?

"Yeah, lady. We're totally giving your abuser with his inflated ego and anger management problems his gun back! Just get yourself a bullet-proof vest and sleep with one eye open. Have a nice day!"

2. Yeah, it's pitifully lame but the law first takes the

guns out of the situation for some time. That's something. At least now the police have to notify possible victims that the abuser will be armed again. You'd be amazed at how many states don't go that far.
