Gun Control Laws In Connecticut, New York Upheld By Federal Court As Policy Debate Swirls

http://www.ibtimes.com/gun-control-laws-connecticut-new-york-upheld-federal-court-policy-debate-swirls-2146782

Two gun control laws in New York and Connecticut enacted following the mass shooting in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School were upheld Monday by a federal appeals court. The laws ban the possession of semiautomatic assault weapons in both states, Reuters reported.

The SCOTUS is considering hearing an appeal on a Chicago ban of assault weapons. They decided not to hear an appeal on a similar 1990 New Jersey law and IF they hear the current case it can be for one of two reasons: to overturn the assault weapons ban laws or to uphold them and put the issue to rest as they did the Gay Marriage issue. If they refuse to hear the challenge the assault weapons bans in place will remain constitutional.

Keeping an eye on this one.
