I am just wondering how the posters in this group are doing?

Tensions in the religion room are high now and insults are flying. I am wondering how members of this room are handling it.

Just as a warning please don't mention other posters names and or anything that will get a post hidden.

because I can see threads with hundreds of replies and most are from those 'same posters' that I have blissfully on Ignore.

The sad thing is that their toxicity is infecting other members of that group.

Others do appear to have some deep wounds and legitimate grievances. They just don't know the appropriate ways to deal with it and do a lot of displacing of that hurt on others not even remotely responsible.

The first group are impossible and best placed on Ignore. The second require openness, understanding, and empathy to communicate with. I am always open to the later.

Ooops. Meant the second group. One of those who does seem truly wounded.

I am trying to deal differently with my anger with regards to people's wounds impacting their here and now relationships.

With anyone willing to converse with me and disagree with civility, my heart and mind are always open.

To those who are not willing, then I am simply done trying. They are ignored both here and elsewhere. It is not worth the stress it causes trying to converse with toxic people.

however, it rarely goes well.

Bluntly, I see a lot of immature thinking relying on internet sites and memes for confirmation bias of the unresolved anger and hurt (sadly yes real at times) from bad childhood experiences with literalistic and fundamentalist Christian denominations.

I will only waste so much time and then another is added to my Ignore list. I just added a new one that derailed what could have been an interesting discussion on some amazing religious thinkers of the 20th century now sadly overlooked.

Ah, well.

Many of the posts in the religion room are of no interest to me, and I basically skip them.

I had posted one comment on a OP related to the one you are referencing, and then let it go.

Besides which, about six of the regulars there make up my ignore list.

I come to DU for information and to support people and causes that are either important or needing support.

New posters entering religion right away is not too common so I need to be able to see it and ignoring the regulars makes it harder.

I just finished reading

Jesus and the Lost Goddess
The Secret Teachings of the Original Christians

Working on Your Faith is Your Fortune. By Neville Goddard currently.

And I have had to deal with a couple of stalkers recently.

Other than that I'm great.

I handle posts like that by staying out of them, and if I find myself in them, by ignoring insulting parts of posts, and focusing on productive parts. To me, diplomacy is more important than taking offense and returning fire.

I rarely see anything I want to read, or a story that needs to be "rescued" and posted to an appropriate group.

It seems to be mostly biased opinion pieces, and by people for whom I have little to no respect to begin with. Better to stick with the safe havens where the calm, friendly, and good conversations exist.
