Elizabeth Warren

By Nia-Malika Henderson
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has had a good, strong run of public appearances and headlines over the last several days, further driving the presidential buzz surrounding her.
She showed up in West Virginia July 14 to rally Democrats around long-shot Senate candidate Natalie Tennant, testing whether her brand of Northeastern liberalism could play in an increasingly conservative state. The standing-room-only crowd that cheered her fiery message suggested that she passed that test.
Known for taking the big banks to the woodshed in several Senate hearings, Warren also added to her greatest video hits on July 15 with a tough grilling of Federal Reserve Janet Yellen.
She The People reached out to Erica Sagrans, the 31-year old campaign manager for the Warren-in-waiting presidential campaign. Sagrans has never met Warren, who is not affiliated with the Ready for Warren group, but she could be one of the key people that could convince Warren to run for the White House.
The following is a lightly edited transcript of the conversation

(135,425 posts)Why trade a position where EW can actually have clout with economic policy as head of the Banking Committee, to a position where one has to wait for Congress to pass legislation?
That's aside from the fact that she pledged to not run, on top of saying she wasn't running dozens of times. Her constituents would not support her going back on her word, and she knows it. That's why the only visits to states that she's done are to support OTHER candidates for election, not to develop a 50 state strategy.
She's well behind the fundraising curve if she was intending to run, too. There's the big hint that she's not going to "change her mind" right there.

(135,425 posts)I think they like each other, too--despite attempts to characterize them in other ways.

(40,656 posts)campaign. Nice. Nothing like the modern third way democrat that he is to make you want to run right out and vote for his wife.

The presidency is the most powerful position in the world, when its used as such. That's why I'm pretty sure the good people of our Commonwealth will cheer Warren on to the White House.

(135,425 posts)I see "I think..." and demurring comments, but no Sherman statement like EW made. No "I pledge to retire" like EW said "I pledge to serve out my term."
So, I did enjoy ... not finding what you claimed was there...!

(34,589 posts)Hard to tell what that means, you're right.

(135,425 posts)It's like an oath, a promise.
It's entirely possible for someone to rule something out, and then change their mind. There was no "promise" to constituents or anyone else made by HRC to not run in that link you provided.
Senator Warren, on the other hand "PLEDGED" to finish out her term.

When peppered about her intentions, she added: "I pledge to serve out my term.
"I am not running for president. I am working as hard as I can to be the best possible senator I can be," she said. "I am working as hard as I can to be the best the possible senator that I can be and to fight for the things that I promised during my campaign that I would fight for. I am fighting for bank accountability. I am fighting hard to help rebuild Americas middle class."
More links, same thing:

Now, you go check and see when her term ends, and you'll then come to the conclusion that the math just doesn't work.
