Where you can get drinks and a meal or nice food at your seat. The seats are very comfortable and can recline. We enjoy it for the occasional night out. It’s a bit of a splurge but fun.

6. When movie tickets are $20, many families can't afford to go

Tickets and concessions for a family of 4 or 5 cost more than a year’s subscription to a streaming service. No wonder theater attendance is down.

I can view the seats that are open before the movie so I know if there are seats without people near my chosen seat. This was really important post-Covid. Many times I was the only one in the theater. Sometimes I go with a friend but I enjoy going solo also. There are discount days/times and rewards programs too. In the theater I feel fully immersed in the movie with few distractions.

Likely it will be the new one with Robert DeNiro, Ezra, which has decent numbers on Rotten Tomatoes.

When I was a teen, for reasons I don't really recall, I began a journal of sorts to record each and every movie I went to see. I have forty-plus years of my movie-going activities documented in some detail. I can tell you the precise date and time that I saw Back to the Future, or the name of the theater I was in to see Ocean's 11, or who was with me to view Get Out. Sometimes I'll look at the list and marvel at the names of past girlfriends/dates/partners and friends, many of whom I haven't seen in years if not decades. I remember the Saturday afternoons watching Siskel and Ebert's At the Movies, often minutes before heading out for the evening to see a movie they'd just reviewed.

I love the theater experience, despite the occasional ass-hat who's fiddling with their phone or the airport concession pricing. And, as long as I am able and the doors are open, I'll be there.

9. I go for certain movies

Recently, it was Dune: Part Two and the A24 re-release of Stop Making Sense. Both at Alamo Drafthouse which is now closing its doors in my area. I admit it is only a few times a year (obviously). And with Alamo having closed, I am not sure I will go that much.

But there may be films that need to be seen at a theater. A good example is the film The Lighthouse. I watched it in the theater when it came out in 1 BC (Before COVID) and the small screen did not do it justice. It is a great film to watch but way better on the movie screen.

12. Rarely and always matinees. I did see the Top Gun sequel in a theater. That might have been the last...

I used to go to a historic old theater in Denver that tended to show more indie and artsy films. But that was quite some time ago. I can enjoy a matinee, but the crowds bug me--more so after COVID...

I don't want movie cinemas to go the way of the DODO. More social isolation with people staying home to stream movies is not a great thing, IMO. Still, I admittedly am not leading the way.

I'd waste my money in a real theater since they don't have intermissions anymore.
