Related: About this forumDating in the Star Wars Universe must be awfully complicated.
My question: Where do babies in the Star Wars universe come from?
On Earth it's fairly straightforward:
You meet 10,000 people, out of those 1000 are your age, out of those you get to know 100 people really good, and out of those 10 will be considered for mate.
In the Star Wars universe, dating becomes way more complicated:
Sure, every race has its home-planet, but there are other planets where the demographics are a wild mix of various species. If your species makes up 10% of the demographics, your odds of finding a significant other are automatically lower by a factor of 0.1.
This allows for two possible results:
- In the Star Wars universe, people are automatically less picky when it comes to romance.
- If the pickiness weren't reduced, that would mean that way fewer kids are born in multi-species societies, leading to a permanently shrinking population on those planets, making a permanent influx of immigrants necessary from single-species societies.
Or maybe there are galactic versions of dating-apps and online-dating-services.

Or, if you prefer, send off samples of you and your mate's genetic material, and we'll send you a vigorous hybrid baby within a few weeks.

(16,459 posts)I regard that as highly unlikely. Romance contains sexual attraction. Sexual attraction is based on matching phenotypical stereotypes. And a squid doesn't have the right "face" for a sexual attraction.
Not even mentioning the colossal chemical and biological problems of mixing the gentic material of two species. Have you ever tried cross-breeding a dog with a tree?

(6,342 posts)Several characters in the Star Trek universe are "half-human."
Star Trek gets away with it by relying on the theory of alien seeding. It's basically suggesting that life evolved because ancient aliens put it here as well as thousands of other planets and that the humanoid life has similar enough genetics to mate.
