PG-13: The bad guy gets wounded and is arrested.

R: The good guy gets wounded but the bad guy gets killed.

NC-17: The good guy or the bad guy mutilates and slaughters everybody else.

I didn't know you were such a self-respected critic of definition jokes. When did that happen?

A movie can show pretty horrific violence and still get a PG or PG-13. But a single nip-slip or an F bomb, and the rating goes to an R.

This country is quite puritanical respecting sex and frightening blasé about violence. The Europeans think we have it backwards (and so do I!).
