He’s Back! Daniel Craig Will Return to James Bond for Fifth Time: Report

BY DAVE QUINN

POSTED ON JULY 25, 2017 AT 12:07PM EDT

Once saying that he would rather “slash his wrists” then play James Bond again, British actor Daniel Craig is reportedly stepping back into 007s’s shoes.

The 49-year-old actor will once again play Ian Fleming’s iconic secret service agent, The New York Times reported, in Bond’s upcoming big screen outing — set to hit theaters November 8, 2019.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have written the last six Bond installments, will once again write this film — as previously reported. It will be the 25th officially outing of the character on the big screen.

Reps for Craig and the film had no comment to PEOPLE.

If Roger Moore could keep going until age 57, I don't see why Craig, a much more serious and believable Bond, can't go at least until his early fifties.

And he was rather definitive as James Bond.

Actually, the first several Bond films were much closer to Ian Fleming's novels than later films. In my opinion, the franchise went off track in the fifth film, "You Only Live Twice." By then, the gadgets and stupid one-liners had overtaken the films and they only got sillier once Roger Moore took on the role. It wasn't until Daniel Craig's first outing in "Casino Royale" that the original intent of the character came through again.

Interestingly, "Casino Royale" is a fairly close adaptation of the original novel, albeit with many additional features and characters. It was interesting casting to make Felix Leiter an African American.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the best of Fleming's novels but it's one of the worst of the films. I heard a story that upon seeing the completed film, one of the producer's friends commented that they should have kept Diana Rigg's character alive and killed off George Lazenby!

Thanks for the news about Craig, Aristus. I like him a lot, too.
