I have had the same one for almost two years..."This is ***-****. Please leave a message, unless you are a Republican then go run along". I don't know how many people that don't know me would get the reference.

We saw the movie in a theater in Tokyo, where the audience did not seem to realize that the movie was a satire. I was the only one in the theater laughing.

I showed the rant to a friend at work, he had never seen it before. It's funny to think it was 1976, I was ten when I saw it the first time. It's 42 years later and nothing in our world has changed. I think Network was more speculative fiction than satire.

It is incredible to watch it now and see how much of what they speculated about ended up becoming true...news as entertainment and ratings.

Anderson Cooper was a co-host this time. They wers discussing how "news" and journalism have changed since then as well as the idea that a news program would ever consider ratings and "entertainment". Anderson's mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, was married to the film's director once, Sidney Lumet.
