I watched Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima & Thin Red Line over the last 2 weeks, excellent distractions and we've been through worse.

...It takes considerable liberties with historical accuracy. I won't give any spoilers but the Wikipedia page for the movie has a summary of the main problems. There are other pages that describe the issues in more depth.

I persuaded my wife to watch it with me. She's wary of war films, not wanting to be sickened by combat scenes. I assured her there were only brief scenes of dead and wounded.

She enjoyed it very much, and I enjoyed explaining the historical context for her. (I wasn't mansplaining; she just doesn't know much about WWII.)
