Related: About this forumJust got back from " Love and Marriage" with Adam Driver and Scarlet Johansson..
Received great reviews ..... I would have walked out after the 1st hour except I was with my wife and her friend.. Keep in mind I like Adam Driver as an actor...loved "Girls"..
but in this particular film he was all over the screen with every angle of his body and face. He was so physically large that he was almost as big as the screen.. But the worst part of the film which was as long as the USA route 1 highway, was when the director put Driver in a NYC club and had him in front of the audience performing some sort a swan song which seemed to last 15 minutes..a la Diane Keaton/ Woody Allan's movie... My God, at least Keaton could sing.. however Allan was heavily criticized for putting his favorite gal in front of a night club audience... seemingly as a favor for his fav. gal... See How good her voice is??.. Driver had no business performing a serious love ballad..
My overall problem is indicative of this: I just can not believe how movie reviewers these days seem to be overrating their reviews.. I've seen a bunch of films this year which I thought were mediocre which however got rave reviews.. And then I think back into the 50s when there was a huge payola scandal with Radio Stations playing songs on the air for money from producers.. I'm thinking could this be the same type of situation.

(11,073 posts)your eyes and listened to Daniel Craig that you would have sworn that you were listening to Kevin Spacey. He did the role exactly like Spacey would have, sounding just like Spacey.

Quickness to service does not indicate quality.

(2,252 posts)Driver, ScarJo and Marriage Story are picking up nominations for all the major awards. My take on both leads singing Sondheim songs on opposite coasts is to show that they are forever bonded. Divorce can't change that. Nice to hear Sondheim songs in 2 of my favorite movies this year. You Can Drive A Person Crazy and Being Alive in Marriage Story and Send In The Clowns in Joker. I liked this movie a lot more that I thought I would and I'll be happy if ScarJo takes best actress.

(6,437 posts)There's the reality that people who review film for a living tend to look at them differently from your average person that watches a handful a year.
One persons mediocre is another persons gem and vice versa.
