Psycho is a 1960 American psychological horror film directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and written by Joseph Stefano. It stars Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles, and Martin Balsam, and was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The film centers on an encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after stealing money from her employer, and the motel's owner-manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath.

To this day, I am uncomfortable in a shower that has more than a clear plastic shower curtain. I hadn't thought about the connection in ages until I saw this post! A good example of how frightening childhood memories make themselves at home in our heads. I watched it on television while babysitting so I must have been about 12 or 13.

was scheduled to debut on CBS in Sep. of 66 but was cancelled after the still unsolved murder of Valerie Percy, the daughter of then Senate candidate Charles Percy. I don't think it ever had a proper network TV debut but was shown on local stations months later.
