'The Heiress,' Actress Olivia de Havilland (1916-2020) RIP

1949 movie trailer for 'The Heiress,' for which de Havilland won the Academy Award for Best Actress. After a stunning career, and many years living in France the actress has died at age 104. Her dramatic work and life remain exemplary.

The Heiress is a 1949 American drama film produced and directed by William Wyler and starring Olivia de Havilland as Catherine Sloper, Montgomery Clift as Morris Townsend, and Ralph Richardson as Dr. Sloper. Written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, adapted from their 1947 play The Heiress. The play was suggested by the 1880 novel Washington Square by Henry James. The film is about a young naive woman who falls in love with a handsome young man, despite the objections of her emotionally abusive father who suspects the man of being a fortune hunter.
In 1996, The Heiress was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heiress

a talent, and a gracious and beautiful woman. I really liked her meeting with history author David McCullough some years ago in Paris where he also lives part time I think.

As a kid I was fascinated by the swashbuckling great 'Captain Blood' and dashing Errol Flynn. Love the Caribbean.

Trailer, 'Captain Blood' (1935) classic swashbuckler adventure hit with de Havilland, Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone.

When I watch it, I always think that the best thing that ever happened to Olivia de Havilland's character is when Montgomery Clift's character stands her up when she has her heart set on eloping with him. It was a reality check for her. If he had actually shown up that night, what kind of a bloody horror would her life have been like from that point on?

The supporters of that orange con man in the White House are in a similar situation now. They need a similar reality check. How painful will that reality check have to be to be effective for them? How painful will it be for the rest of us?

Our current situation is SO analagous to that situation in that movie.

more subtle actions of user and villain Morris Townshend and how it greatly impacted the life of Catherine Sloper. Ralph Richardson, as her distant father saw it immediately. Later in life I realized Townsend's malice and betrayal and the psychological depth of the story in many more areas.

There needs to be some kind of detection and protection from scammers, users and sociopathic personalities that wreak havoc.

With my family, I would watch her movies with Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone whenever they came on TV.

Robin Hood and Captain Blood were great films, and Olivia glowed. I think she was my first celebrity crush--her and Cheryl from the Mouseketeers.

When little I thought Tyrone Power and Errol Flynn were the most handsome men in the world!
