Favorite Political Movies?

The Battle of Algiers - Anti-imperialist, with Saadi Yacef playing himself, which I found so unique. It's a great movie, that might make you cry, but might make you angry enough to try and do good for the human issues people ignore.

They Shoot Horses, Don't They? --- its more symbolic, especially the exploitation, how even the "winners" are losers. How in a rat race, even the "winner" is still a rat.. There's also the aristocracy who gets off being spectators.

Network - great flick about the media, how its trivial and full of gossip, only concerned with ratings and sponsors.

1. A Face In The Crowd

Andy Griffith does a great donald trump impersonation.

His character knows how to play the media. The big difference is the rags to riches character. We think he's a sweet hobo in the beginning of the movie and find out he was always an awful person later on.

4. That one is high on my list as well. It is prescient. Patricia Neal is great.

I heartily recommend it to anyone who is only seeing Andy Griffith as the sheriff of Mayberry. It’s quite a dramatic tour de force

8. After A Face in the Crowd

Griffith was tabbed to be the next Brando. His next film was "No Time for Sergeants" where he met his life long friend Don Knotts.
He was offered the role of Sheriff of Mayberry, and only agreed to sign if he owned half the show. The rest is history.

10. I watched that recently after having a copy for about ten years. I'd seen many of the main scenes,

the reason why I got it, but just hadn't gotten around to watching the whole thing. In the end, Lonesome's followers may not have looked like it, but were much sharper than the former guy's fans.

That media is influential! Especially nowadays when people fall "in love" with the person, and not the news. I attribute this to television (as opposed to radio), and then social media, people liking an attribute, etc., and maybe not holding the media's feet to the fire.

Also like: The Best Man, 1964. Stars Henry Fonda it’s about the dirty business of the nominating convention for president. Charlie Chaplin, The Great Dictator, and A King in New York. Also like the Battle of Algiers. Saw it years ago but still remember it well

5. The Best Man- 1964

Written by Gore Vidal, starring Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson,
Intellectual William Russell and down-to-earth Joe Cantwell are front runners for a party nomination that will almost certainly mean the Presidency. Cantwell is prepared to use anything to achieve his goal while Russell sees himself as a man of principle - though his philandering means he is relieved his wife is prepared to appear alongside him. Both men crucially need the support of the ailing President, and as the stakes become higher each team has to decide how dirty they are prepared to get.

had some great political movies, including "Mr. Smith", but I loved "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town", "You Can't Take It With You!" (great message in the title, demonstrated on film), as well as "Meet John Doe"... They're not as political as Mr. Smith, but I'd recommend them to you (and anyone else reading this)

Interesting that Frank Sinatra, the famous supporter of JFK, was involved with 2 films about the attempted murder of a president or presidential hopeful, this and Suddenly (1954).

Then I saw the movie "Ochu" (The Ear) that was released in 1990 after being banned for 20 years.

22. The Trial of the Chicago Seven

Sacha Baron Cohen has the worst Boston accent. Aaron Sorkin should’ve told him to forget it along time ago. I guess they had too much film already done to let it go when it became incredibly irritating.

The movie is still truly great.
