The Golden Raspberry Awards (also known in short terms as Razzies and Razzie Awards) is a parody award show honoring the worst of cinematic under-achievements. Co-founded by UCLA film graduates and film industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy, the Razzie Awards' satirical annual ceremony has preceded its polar opposite, the coveted Academy Awards, for four decades. The term raspberry is used in its irreverent sense, as in "blowing a raspberry". The statuette itself is a golf ball-sized raspberry atop a mangled Super 8mm film reel spray-painted gold, with an estimated street value of $4.97. The Golden Raspberry Foundation have claimed that the award "encourages well-known filmmakers and top notch performers to own their bad."

The first Golden Raspberry Awards ceremony was held on March 31, 1981, in John J. B. Wilson's living-room alcove in Hollywood, to honor the perceived worst films of the 1980 film season. To this day, Sylvester Stallone is the most awarded actor ever with 10 awards won while Madonna is the most awarded actress with 9 awards.

Can't Stop the Music is a 1980 American musical comedy film directed by Nancy Walker. Written by Allan Carr and Bronté Woodard, the film is a pseudo-biography of disco's Village People that only vaguely resembles the actual story of how the group formed. It was produced by Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment (formerly EMI Films), and distributed by independent distributor Associated Film Distribution (AFD). The film was released after disco's peak and was subsequently a box office flop, winning two of the first ever Razzie Awards for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay.

"Can't Stop the Music" is a song recorded by American disco group the Village People. It was the first release after the exit of original lead singer Victor Willis. With lead vocals by replacement cop Ray Simpson, the song was the first Village People single to flop, i.e., to not go gold or platinum, though it fared much better in the UK (reaching number 11) and Australia (reaching number 1). It is the title track from the soundtrack album of their feature movie, Can't Stop the Music, which also failed miserably, except in Australia.
