ALIEN: ROMULUS

My introduction to the Alien franchise came via the novelization by Alan Dean Foster which I snagged for a dollar in a garage sale. When I eventually saw the Ridley Scott 1979 movie, I was not disappointed. Alien created the science fiction horror genre, and I was hooked from the start.

Alien II replaced the psychological horror with action, but it was well-done and applaudable and memorable.

The other sequels were entirely forgettable.

The prequels Prometheus and Covenant were a hot mess in my opinion.

So, Romulus is a thing. Can this franchise be saved?

that ALIEN borrowed from?
Two in particular-

1958s' It! The Terror from Beyond Space
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051786/
A basic haunted-house tale set aboard a spaceship (pretty cool sets for the time) with a rubbersuited
guy chasing them through it.

1965s' Planet of the Vampires
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059792/?ref_=tt_mv_close
Stylish Italian SF directed by the great Mario Bava

The thing that made ALIEN stand out was the production design team which was
assembled by Alejandro Jodorowsky for his failed DUNE project.
Often billed as "the greatest SF film never made" it could well be considering
how many films were influenced by it's ideas in the following decades.
A full documentary is out on that film, and well worth watching.
