I never knew this group was here (introduction)

Never saw the "Support Groups" folder at the bottom and this is not under "Health" as you would think. Thanks, EvolveAndConvolve for letting the cat out of the bag and making me go look for it!!!

I'm Type 2, diagnosed in 2002. My entire family seems to have Diabetes - my mother and father, my paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather, 2 paternal aunts, most of my cousins and me. My younger sister has "impaired glucose tolerance" and my oldest daughter was diagnosed with hyperinsulinemia at 17 years of age and Diabetes this year.

I used to take Byetta and metformin, but stopped during my pregnancy with my now 15 month old twins. I went on Levemir and Novolog for the pregnancy and I liked the results so much that I stayed on them after I gave birth. On Byetta, my fasting glucose was usually 135 and my HbA1c was 5.9-6. Now, my FG is 89 and HbA1c is 5.6.

So, hi, everyone!

And keep those numbers! You want to stay around and see if the twins will give you grandchildren.

The "Health" tab, so I have no idea why it was buried in "Support Groups" either. If there can be such folders as AIDS/HIV, Cancer, Eating Disorders, etc., why not Diabetes? It's baffling. But we're glad you found us.

You've been getting great numbers. Keep it up!

Glad that our little secret is out of the bag. I just saw a tumbleweed fly by, so the group could definitely use more traffic.

I'm Type 1/Type 2/Type 1.5 - no definitive diagnosis other than "you're insulin dependent AND insulin resistant." The diagnosis came just this February at age 40 and it still makes me grumpy some days.

I now eat a low-carb high-fat diet and I very rarely have a reading outside my 85-105 range (my last A1C was 5.0). I take Lantus every day and some Humalog with meals or for the rare correction dose. My doctor thinks I'm insane, but eating LCHF has not only improved my blood sugar readings, but my cholesterol has gone from "holy shit you're about to have a fucking heart attack" to "good lord, you've got the cholesterol of a 10 year old boy." My doctor's exact words when he saw my improved cholesterol numbers were "holy shit!" It took a new draw of blood and a retest to make sure the lab hadn't made some mistake.

My doctor also thought that "that much fat" would cause me to have a heart attack, but I explained that eating butter (for example) instead of margarine (which is nothing but modified fats) would help. I avoid HFCS - even if it says it has a very little bit in it, I won't touch it. I eat a lot of walnuts, almonds, etc... but we just found out that one of my twins is "moderately to severely" allergic to walnuts and peanuts so I am afraid to even open the jar in front of him (LOL).

I had a bunch of antibody tests run that showed that I wasn't Type 1 or Type 1.5, but I still don't produce much insulin, so insulin works better for me than Byetta did.
