If you are taking Ozempic for DM and have any level of retinopathy

Hi all, just some relatively new clinical information that has come across my desk.

I do not mean to create undue alarm so, grain of salt. Ozempic is a great drug and is like a miracle for many and most people

But if a patient has any level of diabetic retinopathy, a study has shown that there is a 3% chance that the retinopathy can get worse compared to 1.8% of the placebo for Ozempic. A paradoxical effect as it were

This can occur over the short term, weeks to months, but over the long term it helps with retinopathy.

Your eye Dr *may* not be aware of this, or if he is a retina Dr, has very many patients in this situation.

This applies to diabetics only, not folks who are non-DM taking it for weight loss
