Mychal Thompson says Warriors will make a 'serious run' at Kevin Durant
Klay Thompson's father Mychal Thompson has multiple ties to the Warriors organization. So when he says that the team is going to make a "hard" run at Thunder forward Kevin Durant when Durant reaches free agency in 2016, it's probably a good idea to listen. Via Warriors World's transcription from ESPN LA:
I also heard it on good authority from a team that plays in the Bay Area that they're going to go hard after Kevin Durant.
So... that's terrifying. The Warriors are already a heavy favorite to win the NBA title. In 2016, the media deal will go into effect, giving teams like the Warriors more cap room, just as David Lee's contract comes off the books. They'd likely have to make a little bit of wiggle room to squeeze in those max contracts. (I haven't done the math.)
Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant? Would Durant want to go to Steph's team? Could the basketball nets in Oracle Arena handle the fire? Everything is coming up Warriors, and this would just make things insane. There would be no stopping the Warriors. Is it a pipe dream? Maybe. But Bob Meyers just won Executive of the Year, the Warriors are screaming towards an NBA title like a comet, and will have the market, players, and money to woo Durant.
