Warriors need overtime, but top Cavaliers

It was worth waiting 40 years for this.

The Warriors’ offense is still downright explosive, but it was their stalwart defense against Cleveland on Thursday night that showed exactly why they’re favored to the win their first NBA title since 1975.

The Warriors got 10 straight stops to open the overtime period, and grabbed a 108-100 Game 1 victory in front of a sellout crowd at Oracle Arena.

Stephen Curry made four free throws to put his squad ahead 102-98 with 2:30 remaining in overtime. After the sixth consecutive defensive stand, Andre Iguodala found Harrison Barnes in the corner for a three-pointer that appeared to clinch a game that included a Warriors postseason-high 13 lead changes.
