I really think Democrats are starting to wake up
A few weeks ago I mentioned a couple of long-time DFL activists who, while once Clinton supporters, are now hoping for a Warren or Sanders run.
Last week I was at dinner with some other long time DFLers. One of those present is really the definition of a party hack - she's held public office, both elected and appointed, DNC type, managed to be a delegate to a couple national conventions. She really was the very definition of a moderate Democrat. She is now in her 80s.
Midway through dinner, she says to me, "You know, I miss Wellstone more the longer he's gone." (Well, most of us do so that's not a big surprise - but she wasn't his biggest supporter when he first ran.) Then she added, "And I know you and I argued when Franken ran and I was sure he'd be a disaster but I'll admit I was wrong and I like him more everyday." (!)
So, knowing she had been a big Klobuchar booster, I did say, "What about Amy?" (we in Minnesota always call our politicians by their first names - even to their faces - because we're just all so damn friendly). And she said "Don't mention that woman's name to me."
And she also prefers Warren to Clinton.
I'm teliing ya, the tide is turning.

(28,486 posts)and, let's not forget, that during his first 2 years in office the Republicans controlled both houses of the legislature. He was the only one who stood between us and the barbarians.
Of course, it was their attempts at overreach (voter ID and anti-same sex marriage amendments) that resulted in the DFL taking over both houses in 2012 (and defeating both the amendments at the polls that November). Sadly, low voter turnout in 2014 resulted in the Republicans getting control of the House - while returning Dayton and Franken to office (go figure). We can only hope Minnesota voters have learned a lesson about showing up.

(50,983 posts)Because if the party doesn't move rapidly to the left, not only on social issues, but on financial issues, 2016 is going to be a disaster of historical proportions
First of all we must acknowledge that there are office holders and activists that call themselves Democrats that are, in reality, working for the other side with the objective of dividing the party and damaging our electoral hopes. They are clandestine Republicans. Acknowledge this first. Weed them out! Their pet issues include free trade, Chained CPI, privatizing education, raising the retirement age and other issues that will undermine the traditional strengths of the Democratic Party. These DINOs even promote trickle down concepts. They wouldn't utter a peep about raising taxes on the wealthy or corporationsexactly what the American people want to hear and what will generate voter enthusiasm.
Remember, leading to the 2008 election candidate Obama's central campaign theme was doing away with the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. This was correctly understood by the Obama team to be wildly popular with the electorate. It worked!

(14,255 posts)not run" stuff", as if they honestly expect that Warren supporters will all just sigh and send in for their Hillary bumper stickers. It is as if they cannot imagine support for ideals and policies instead of support for a personality, a familiar name, and a shitload of money. Kind of sad, really, for the Democratic Party. But illustrative of Third Way thinking.
