I just got banned from the Hillary Clinton room.
Apparently pointing out empty rhetoric will do that.
Thank the gods. Ick, creepy, mentally desolate, my skin is crawling, I must shower.
Just remember, do not attempt this at home. My PSA.
Peace.

(25,699 posts)I got banned from the BOG 'cause I pointed out to a poster there that bombing Syria would not count as "humanitarian action" back in 2013.

People get banned from your group as well, just saying.

I was banned 6 months ago for asking how a poster could possibly predict specifics about Hillary's future campaign without any current inside knowledge of her campaign. The poster had no answer, and I was immediately banned for asking a simple question.

I understand you were not attacking but in safe groups, unless it's in support of, might as well stay away

There is a difference between centrists and the actual left. What's also frustrating is they self identify as left but are totally center right. You can tell right away there's a screw loose.

(11,175 posts)They're free to come here and explain why they think Hillary Clinton is a populist.
Of course, they would have to be prepared for some responses that might -- gasp -- disagree with them.
Given that fact, I don't think we need to worry about being overrun.

(23,664 posts)Congratulations, you've just joined a not very exclusive club.
My guess is there are dozens of us who dared to suggest that the empress perhaps had less than a full suit of clothes and were summarily exiled from the empire by members of the howling mob.
The PM informing me of my banishment even contained a fairly detailed explanation of why my sin merited such draconian punishment.
If I were you I would give up any hope of ever being allowed to return there. They have very long memories and well developed needs for vengeance.
Phlem
(6,323 posts)and your right, there is definitely mob mentality going on there. I actually just responded to simple (and I do mean simple) OP before checking what group I was in. One of them knowingly came here just to bare ass. Which reminds me, I have to pick my girl up from kindergarten.

(84,711 posts)A post from the Hillary Group was featured on DU's front page without sourcing it was from The "Hillary Group" and I replied not knowing it was the Hillary Group. I thought I made a typo and went back to edit and realized it was Hillary Group when I located the post and immediately said "Oops, Apologize because I didn't know this was Hillary Group" but already had a host tell me to delete the post after I had edited and put my apology in. I replied that I had already apologized and should I delete my apology and host thanked me for editing and said no...but, I think I was probably banned anyway.
So, it was an accident and poster "J.D. Priestly" had the same thing happen when a post from "Hillary Group" was up on DU front page and she replied not knowing and got banned. Neither of us had ever posted there.
So, It can happen unintentionally.
I miss the days when we could just reply to an OP at the home page or in Latest Threads. Now I've got to parse for the kindergartners group.

(11,175 posts)One of the BOGgies posted there that critics of Obama were applying a double standard. I consider that a very serious charge, so when I saw that post (because it got recc'd up to the Greatest page) I responded to defend myself and others who don't think Obama is perfect.
I was blocked from the BOG, with the explanation, "We like our peace." Well, my view is, if you like your peace, don't start wars.
As the Hillary Clinton Group became more prominent, I wondered how they would handle such a situation. I asked one of the hosts, who replied in part:
So, people in HCG can say something like "Clinton's opponent are all misogynists, there's no other reason anyone would oppose Her Magnificence," and if you respond by mentioning gender-neutral reasons for opposing her, you'll get blocked. I think that's an abuse of the "safe haven" concept.
As long as they take that position, though, any disagreement with a smear about Clinton opponents will have to be addressed in an OP elsewhere. I would link to the offending HCG post and explain that I can't respond there without violating the rules of their little playpen.

(3,747 posts)I was afraid this would happen when it started. We began well enough, and had a lot of real discussion here. Now, unfortunately, there is more and more of stuff like this: no issues, no nothing, just ragging on another group of people that should have nothing to do with what is discussed here.
Fuck Clinton. The establishment will push her whether we argue about it or not. She'll continue running to the detriment of any real discussion. Can we not have this crap posted here? We all know she's a terrible option. The whole point of this group was to have a real discussion on reforming the Democratic Party and to what extent that is possible. I get that we're frustrated, I really do, and that we should have a place to vent. But this isn't a discussion about any issues, at all. I don't come to this group to see more crap about Clinton. There's plenty of fluff and flamebait in GD already. I come here to discuss populism and the movement leftward within the Democratic Party.
I'm sure I'm going to get torn apart for this. But I really think posts like this should be limited, or at least we should set up a stickied venting thread so that this stuff doesn't bleed over into legitimate discussion.
Phlem
(6,323 posts)People need to vent, else things get worse and discussion is nothing about substance and more about all caps. I've been here since 2005 and this is the second or third time I've ever vented like this. I'll be sure to give you the same leeway when it comes your turn.

is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable

Phlem
(6,323 posts)but I think we got the groups covered. Like I said I didn't even know I was in the H.Clinton group when replying to the OP. Now I have to parse every OP before I reply else gentle persons might become upset.
That being said, there's an inordinate amount of "lefties" who approach politics from the center right that have been steadily populating DU drowning out actual "lefties".
I can't personally wait till the elections are over. I fully intend to hold HRC's feet to the fire if she wins but you know what's going to happen anyway. The apologists will come out in swarms making excuses.

I'm sorry, I hate liars. Especially when there was no need to lie. That kind of liar scares me. Bill Clinton lied about Monica, but that was different IMO. What was he supposed to say. But to lie about a trip WITH video that shows the exact opposite is just stupid.
On Edit: I also didn't know I was in Hillary's Dungeon either, so my mistake I guess.
Phlem
(6,323 posts)When that happens what are we supposed to think? Is this a Democracy or are we all just peons that need to be soothed. A lawmaker is a responsibility only few out of millions of people have. It should be respected but in the US it's your path to large sums of money. We're fucked if this continues.

(13,877 posts)35. I disagree with you. It looks like everyone on this thread disagrees with you. Maybe your ideas would find more purchase in the Hillary group.
I had the audacity to suggest that Bernie's triune was a bit Pie in the Sky. Who knew?
Phlem
(6,323 posts)But that's exactly the strategy. For example, nothing stops the tea party and Republicans from suggesting and trying to implement crazy disastrous legislation. Yet we inch closer and closer to their demands with each election. I like Bernie asking for things that seem pie in the sky, that's how the other side gets what they want.
We need to start demanding more populist legislation and never ever stop. Maybe then we can become a more balanced union instead of the 1% funding both sides and winning every fucking time.
That's how it's been done through history, fund both sides of the war and your always a winner.

(6,323 posts)I have never been a follower. There are those of us that think for ourselves but get shoved into a corner because we're not with the "In" crowd. My step father used to berate and physically abuse me to the point where I have PTSD. Then it stopped. Why, because I learned to hit back. Once that happened he was all mouth, of which I could just ignore.
We have to push back and push back HARD! O's populist rhetoric during his campaign made me think that might happen, then during his acceptance speech he announced he was a "New Democrat", meaning" I'm republican lite.

(2,101 posts)is inevitable.
The posts associated with the negatives of Clinton, her campaign, and her supporters here at DU may diminish greatly in this group as the topic ages, but for now they are essential for those of us exploring this group and what it offers. I find it reassuring that others, many others, share my dislike for what appears to being forced upon us.
In the course of the last few days a decision to avoid DU for a while was not made; it was the strength of the voices in this group that kept DU from going the way of the television for me. Thank you all for the courage to be here and speak what has to be said.
And for the moderators of this group, thank you for allowing people like myself to see that we are not alone and that we have choices, that better candidates will come forward, and better policies will be pushed for.

You've all made my 10 years here worth it and I'm not going anywhere. I will continue to sing the populist method for my little girl and for you all. We need a tide that lifts all boats (yes including the BOG and the Hillary group) not just the elite few and I know Hillary says she's that person, but she's just not.
I was upset after Obama's populist rhetoric and then said he was a "new Democrat" during his acceptance speech and I just see that happening again.
You all are why I stay.

(28,486 posts)for you to go to the Hillary Clinton group and question anything she has said or done is on a par with someone going to a Beatles fan page and saying they think Peter "Herman" Noone (of Herman & the Hermits) is cuter than Paul (he wasn't - but you get my drift. And, yes, I'm that old). Anyone who did that would have been banned from the Beatles group and mocked mercilessly.

(14,255 posts)Reminds me of what I heard somewhere about the Clintons keeping careful tabs on who crossed them.
If we actually went into some of those groups just to check on what they were saying, and then pulled posts over that offended us so we could jeer at them - that is what, IMO, those groups really do.
Echo chamber, fan clubs, junior high slam books.
An awful lot of GD OPs, IMO, belong in those gated groups.
