With Hillary absent from S.C. Democratic Convention, likely opponents stump for support
But the candidate was missing. In Clintons absence, her longtime booster, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, did his duty again. But the response from the 1,000 convention delegates and activists was luke warm. And when McAuliffe signaled for a video message from Clinton to play, there was a technical snafu. Then silence.
Its on her e-mail somewhere, shouted one man from the back of the convention hall, referring to Clintons controversial use of a private e-mail server as secretary of state.
What soon followed were fresh reminders that although Clinton is as dominant a front-runner for the nomination as any non-incumbent in recent history, the hearts of party activists are not yet hers.

(8 posts)We, the progressives, don't need Hillary Clinton, who is to the right of Obama dragging the Democratic Party to where the Republican Party is at.
Bernie is the answer, and I know that with the right message, and his ability to debate Clinton might attract true progressives who have abandoned the Party because it was lurching to the right. It's time to put progressives on the ballots.
Progressives issues won in 2014. Progressives who didn't run away from issues won re-election. My former Democratic Senator ran away from the issues and lost to a crazy Teabagger. Now we're stuck with him, and the guy who ran the DSCC committee happens to be our othre idiot Senator who is already a known Third Wayer, so hopefully he gets a primary to the left when it's time next year. I think I have an idea who to back, if he's up for the job.
The point I'm making is - we need to put all progressives in the front burner, ignore the DSCC/DCCC insiders, and roll with the grassroot support, and show the people powered Democratic Party - the 99%, not the 1%.

(62,325 posts)Too bad that once again, the party leadership ignored that message, just as they did in the last mid terms.
And I totally agree with your last paragraph.
Clearly it is now up the voters, DC backs DLCers and even goes so far as to endorse Republicans over their own candidate, see NJ gubernatorial race.

(84,711 posts)a couple of years ago. Maybe Biden will manage to get a rally or two there. An article said: VP Biden has "ties to South Carolina." I searched and searched trying to find a family connection or property connection there...but didn't come up with anything.
But the Clinton "Renaissance Meetings" the beginnings of the "DLC" (Democratic Leadership Conference) or now the "Third Way" had their beginnings in Hilton Head Island, SC long ago when Bill and Hillary were starting out.
Why South Carolina still has so much influence in Party Politics does make one wonder what the hell goes on there. But, then South Carolina has always been a CRAZY PLACE.....
They had a moment of change with Senator Earnest Hollings way back in the 70's.. and a few other "voices of reason for human rights" but, its been pretty much down-hill ever since as the RW Evangelicals took over from the more Moderate Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Lutherines and a few Methodists who did support the change that Dr. King marched for. The landscape of Repubs, though, has grown with RW immigrants to the Resort Islands from the Midwest and Northeast who built second or third homes or retired there and built the many Corporate financed Mega Mansions all over the place.
But...it is still crazy all these years. The roots go deep with the crazy. "Civil War ...and that first shot."
Maybe Biden will whip up support for Hillary...there's not much difference between her and Jeb... But, in their minds as they've gotten more Crazy....Rubio or Rham might be their choice if either wants to bomb the hell out of the rest of the world like Lindsey Graham wants to. Christie is the one with the kind of "stuff" they really like these days, though.
