If so, any thoughts or suggestions for someone who is looking to plant her first plant?
I usually buy legal weed from Massachusetts, but, its pricey.

(2,593 posts)I grow in a tent in the basement. Started out with small tent, 2 plants. Now large tent, six plants.
Advice? learn as much as you can before you start. Decide on your growing method and look at the online blogs available on growing.

exhaust fan and led light.
I bought my tents, fans, led lights on Amazon and Walmart.com
I grow in 3 foot high grow tents. No need for expensive lighting in such a small tent.

Seeds I recommend Crop King Seeds. They have always been real discreet and fast. https://www.cropkingseeds.com/
I only grow females because they are easy to clone.
White Widow is a very easy strain to grow and hard to screw up.

(513 posts)You will have a tent for the seedling and vegetative stage and a larger tent for flowering.
Great buds need great lights. Do not skimp here or you will not like your results. If I had a budget I would spend 75% on lighting.
Its not hard to grow but getting the finish right
Use your local grow shop.
I grow food now, the weed advice was hearsay from a friend.
Its fun.

(9,199 posts)I use a Solarig canopy because my climate often presents September and October rains. Be patient as you approach harvest.

(30,999 posts)The tent, lights, good soil, seeds, etc. But you save a LOT of money in the long run. My husband smokes for pain multiple times a day, so mine paid for itself with the first crop.
There are some great websites about how to set up and how to grow. Be sure to read a lot before you spend the money. My first mistake was buying a lamp that was inadequate. I would up needing 3 lamps that were more powerful.
If you buy a tent that is 48 x 24 x 60 inches, you can fit three plants, along with a vaporizer. I've grown 4 plants in mine but they are just too crowded and more likely to get moldy in the flowering stage (which is a disaster!).

(22,923 posts)well, easy to get a plant to grow... I grow cannabis and CBD Hemp for fun and give most of it away because I don't partake... that said; I am in Northern Vermont and start the plants inside about now and put them outside in spring (I am not a serious grower, just fun) so, nothing spectacular but people I give it to seem to like it

(10,779 posts)Ive been growing for the better part of 20 years. Live in Northern Michigan. Was mentored by a medical cannabis grower who has about 15 years on me. Still learning though and experimenting.
Started in hydroponics moved into soil in the last 3 years. Have good gardening skills so figured why not?
Working on a post about a completely free grow. Stay tuned.

(3,645 posts)The biggest is the dark period during flowering has to be 12 or more hours per night. That uninterrupted dark period is required for a successful flowering. There are now Automatic flowering strains, but I believe they don't produce well either quantity or quality, but if you're not a heavy pain treatment user maybe that would be the easiest first few rounds, and you could then budget your savings to use lights and such. They make contraptions to blackout outside. Outdoors under sunlight is much more affordable than using electric lights. Maybe the newer lights are cheap enough to be worth the security. The all time best tasting stuff is grown Veganicly, no manure or any animal parts used, only plant compost and minerals. That makes the lightest buring. Good luck, anything good for tomatoes is good for that too.

(9,265 posts)I use organic chicken manure from my own chickens and all my friends agree (most are growers) that my plants are the most robust and best tasting. The more manure the better!!

(3,645 posts)Some advocate Bird and Bat Guano. Soma the breeder in his guide reccomends Kalong Guano which is where I heard of that.

(9,265 posts)Many people get it for free. Ive used all kinds of expensive fertilizers - like $40 a gallon for grow, bloom, minerals, etc but get better results with manure. Another place to get good free soil - is under trees in the woods. Good to start seeds and clones in light porous soil - I usually buy this from grow stores.
A good investment is mycorrhiza- when you transplant to a larger pot - sprinkle mycorrhiza on the soil the roots will sit on. You can also find mycorrhiza under some trees - its white threads. I usually start with a 4 in pot, then go up to 7 or 8 inch pot, and then a much larger pot before I transplant into my raised beds.
You can also make a worm farm with your compost.

(3,645 posts)Outdoors they have to not be visible without binoculars. If you feel adventurous you can gently tie silk flowers on the plant as it grows outside.
