There are few things in this country that can create the amount of excitement and awe that happens when a citizen of a marijuana-prohibition state (such as mine) walks into a recreational marijuana dispensary. You kinda lose your mind.
It's natural to ooh and aah over all the beautiful buds on display, and the smells! but if you are in need of saving some money, but still want the good stuff, ask the budtender to show you their SHAKE. This is probably not news to a lot of you, but for those of you who may not yet have taken a vacation to the high lands, think about it.
You can pay from $50-$100 for a quarter oz of beautiful buds, but you can pick up the damn-near same quality SHAKE for perhaps $25-$30 for a quarter oz!
A couple of the budtenders told me that shake is usually what the locals will buy. The tourists go mad on the fully-formed buds. I can see it. Getting a full ounce of shake for $90 or $100?! Woah. Still dreaming about moving to CO.

(35,048 posts)you're on vacation: go ahead and treat yourself to the good stuff. you deserve it, and current prices here in WA are as low as $8/gram. try a few types. try edibles. try hashish, shatter, wax, etc. experiment.
how much weed can you smoke on vacation, anyway? you can't fly back home with it; you're not supposed to take it across state lines. it's illegal to use on federal lands, behind the wheel, indoors. the list goes on and on.
besides, a quarter ounce is somewhere around a half-year's supply for me and the missus.
You can't use it indoors?
I'm not going out on the porch in a snowstorm, no indeed...

(35,048 posts)if your place of shelter has no-smoking rules (i.e. a motel, an apartment, an air bnb), you can't. in WA, this limits you only to private homes, and even in the case of condominiums, there may be no-smoking rules for the building.
and you can't smoke in public parks. people do, of course, and no one really stops them. but technically, you can't.

(9,666 posts)I think I remember those days. My sweet little lady has quite the appetite. A quarter oz will last us maybe two weeks. About an eighth per week. That ain't schwag either, and that's just her! I prefer the oils myself. Edibles often make me too giddy but the oils don't, unless I overdo it. Every shatter and wax I've tried just kills my throat, and they are too strong for me. And I doubt that we are going to go the blowtorch route.
Take that road trip!!

Why make better butter or brownies out of the $300/oz bud when you make it using similar quality shake for $60-$100/oz?
That is the next mission. I have also discovered that some dispensaries will let you make multiple purchases in one visit, provided you step outside for a minute, then come back in. Four transactions at a quarter oz each makes the trip much faster.
We love love love Colorado!

(27,273 posts)And usually don't have to buy till now. The other day my husband said "we're almost out of our stash" and I smiled and said "we'll just go to the store and buy some more."
