Sessions to rescind Obama-era rules on non-interference with states where pot is legal
While many states have decriminalized or legalized marijuana use, the drug is still illegal under federal law, creating a conflict between federal and state law

(40,014 posts)Blue states, another matter. First the tax bill now this. Civil economic war is on. May we ask what is the point of the Republican Party in blue states? The first Democrat who does will go to the head of the class.

Obviously without enough federal convictions to keep the private prisons occupied, more enforcement of established "crimes" is the only answer to subsidize these endeavors.

Problem was, not enough people were being be executed to satisfy the demand, so they just kept adding the death penalty to more and more offenses to increase the supply of replacement organs.

(4,407 posts)In the middle of an opioid crises, it would seem to me to be political suicide to go after marijuana now.
The tide for legalization is huge... the army of Bubbas who voted for Trump like their weed as much as anyone. The mobilization of young voters is the last thing the Republicans want. Arresting people who carefully followed their State law will appear to be a terrible injustice to all but the the religious right wackos.
I know it causes terrible injustice to not have legalization, but going after pot could be one of the last thing this alt-right/religious-right Republicanism does. I can't say I want to see it happen, but I can't say it might not actually be better in the long term.

(10,402 posts)I just can't imagine states giving up the massive tax dollars. I can't even imagine how many tax dollars California will get after a year. I guess it will never be legal where I live until well after I've been planted myself, it sucks.
