Got this email from Andrew Gillum’s Campaign:

Our public schools are underfunded and our teachers are underpaid. Last year, our state ranked 47th in average instructional staff pay. Teachers are struggling to make ends meet, and our kids and their education are suffering.

That's why I've proposed a bold new plan to legalize and tax recreational marijuana -- so we can invest new revenue into giving our teachers and instructional staff the raise they deserve. Here in Michigan we have legalizing recreational pot (we already have medical marijuana) on the ballot. Taxes are a big part of legalization. It's ahead so far.

And I've seen this before in Florida.. Profits/tax from gambling were supposed to help education..So what did they do? they cut the existing education budget cause the gambling money paid for the education... . They just wanted to raid the education budget cause it got too big... Correct me If I'm wrong.

The only thing holding up the Feds from taking pot off Schedule 1 when it CLEARLY DOES have pharmaceutical benefits and is NOT addictive is the private prison lobby and the law enforcement lobby. Lots of '$green$' in that war on drugs.

Their influence was completely obvious when the state legislature started crafting regulations after medical marijuana was overwhelmingly approved by constitutional amendment in 2016.

Even the state health department was in their back pocket. Their website includes the following text in big bold type on the page for Office of Medical Marijuana Use: Medical marijuana is available in Florida, however, remains illegal under federal law.

So now supporters of public education have to be supporters of legal marijuana? In many cases, this will be the case. But the two have nothing to do with each other, and by tying the two, Gillum forces people who support one but not the other to make a choice to support or not to support the initiative that they should not have to make. It's just going to both weaken public education and reduce support for legal marijuana.

And more generally, the funding of schools should be from general funds. Not tied to a specific tax.

The real choice before us in Florida is between Gillum, a progressive who is determined to make some real changes for people (including improving education, and truly legalizing cannabis), or his opponent, Ron DeRacist, who offers nothing beyond dog-whistle attacks (“monkey this up,” “socialism,” etc.), and total fealty to Cadet Bone Spurs — who is so far up his butt that Ronnie can probably taste mushroom. As a MAGAt he no doubt wants to totally dismantle the public school system and funnel tax (and lottery) dollars to the unaccountable charter schools that have sprung up like dollar weeds here.

We can — and should — learn much from Colorado.

The voters already overwhelmingly approved medical marijuana and the rethuglicans have done everything in their power to thwart it's full implementation according to the voter approved amendment. The voters are very angry over this.
