Martin O'Malley Aims To Set The Bar On Criminal Justice With Comprehensive Reform Plan.

The proposal is the most detailed offering by any candidate so far.

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley on Friday released a sweeping plan to reform the U.S. criminal justice system, a move that could set the bar for candidates from both parties as they seek to stake a claim on the issue.

In a nine-page document, the former Maryland governor outlined a set of progressive policies designed to address issues like reform of police, prisons and sentencing; restoring felon voting rights; declassifying marijuana as a Schedule I drug; and overhauling the nation's approach to addiction and mental health.

"America’s criminal justice system is badly in need of reform," reads an introduction to O'Malley's plan. "For too long our justice system has reinforced our country’s cruel history of racism and economic inequality -- remaining disconnected from our founding ideals of life, liberty, and equal treatment under the law."

(Read the entire plan below.)

I was on the fence between him and Bernie Sanders, but Sanders - so far - has stronger support.

That said, I'd crawl through broken glass to vote for O'Malley in the GE if he was our nominee. I don't know how to get him to that point, though.

got to do with who you support? Do you/should you/should I/should ANYONE 'support' someone because it may appear that OTHERS support them/him/her? It makes NO SENSE to me to approach this in that way.

I support Martin O'Malley because he has the BEST platform of any of the Democratic candidates, has set it out specifically, has EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE, and knows how to get his programs through governmental bodies. I do NOT support him because of whomever else might support him.

This is not a horse race, I'm not putting money on Secretariat because I'll be paid back when he wins, I'm supporting Martin O'Malley because I WANT HIM TO WIN!

I WISH others would look at what's going on now, pre-primary-wise, with CLEAR LENSES.

that you didn't appreciate my comments regarding the polls - and you are right, Elleng. I wish things were different.

He DOES have executive experience and is a great candidate. I'm not sure what else you want me to say, other than that.

Beyond that, it was rude of me to say so in the O'Malley group. My apologies - I thought I was in Primary.

HECK with polls, especially at this early point, encourage others to recognize his merits and send him financial support when possible, get the O'Malley bandwagon MOVING!
