CAMPAIGN NOTEBOOK: Finding Ms. Wright

When Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley campaigned Friday at Tuscan Kitchen restaurant in Salem, N.H., he encountered the woman he'd been waiting to meet his entire life.
At least according to his mother, the former Maryland governor said.

But first, O'Malley had to make the rounds on the second floor of the popular Italian restaurant, greeting most of the approximately 30 people who came to hear him speak.
They included a man who sang a few opera lines and a young boy dressed in costume.
"Hi Spider-Man," O'Malley said.

As for the woman?
No, it wasn't wife Barbara O'Malley — the mother of their four children.
It was Bonnie Wright of Salem.
She happens to be an alternate member of the town's Zoning Board of Adjustment.

"Ms. Wright," O'Malley said. "My mother always told me I would meet you someday." . .

So it was no surprise Thursday when the New Hampshire Democratic Party decided to take a few jabs at the 17 Republican candidates for president, including some who will be campaigning in the state Monday.
Party Chairman Ray Buckley has never been one to hold back.
"Instead of proposing things that help everyday Granite Staters, GOP candidates continue to make things harder for them," Buckley said in a statement.
"These Republicans aren't interested in raising the minimum wage," he continued. "They're not making sure that women are paid equally for the long hours they already work. They're not protecting workers' rights. And they're certainly not safeguarding the retirement age for future seniors who have put in their fair share of long hours."
Buckley was joined in his remarks by New Hampshire AFL-CIO President Glenn Brackett.
"Labor Day is also a day we use to celebrate the progress of the American worker, and the significant contributions we make to the country," Brackett said. . .

Perhaps few people realized that this year marks an important milestone in the history of New Hampshire's beloved first-in-the-nation presidential primary.
It's the 100th anniversary.
And there will be a big breakfast bash Sept. 15 to celebrate it.
