Working Poor

Happy thanks giving
Those of us that have to work, I hope we all get to snarf a little turkey, mash and gravy or what ever your favorite is, and that the customers aren't too horrible (aren't they always?)
Those that don't have to work, i hope you aren't alone but if you are, in this group i consider you my family and friends, i toast you in cranberry juice, i'm thankful for you all. Those that have family and friends around, i'm happy for you, enjoy and i hope politics doesn't ruin the day
I'll probably (sad as it is, but i'll work 2 shifts) pick up a walmart deli turkey dinner meh, but as long as the mash and gravy are ok i'm fine with dry turkey
Happy what ever all of you!

(1,937 posts)when is canadian 'thanks giving' ?
and are there different foods?
i'm from a nordic country so i understand 'cold weather food'
and i was close to denmark germany and belgium so i understand beer :-p
Happy thanks giving after the fact to you and ...a toast of mead
oh, and nope haven't seen you much in the group so..hey Welcome to the group and the party

(5,604 posts)Its pretty much a carbon copy of the US holiday, only without the phony pilgrim story.

(1,937 posts)So, ....
food comatose shopping after dinner with friends (preferably cross border?)
it'd be so interesting to compare (for a non US Cit) Canadian recipes to US ones
if you feel up to it, otherwise i'll add it to my list of todo look ups (only like 4 pages LOL)
Btw, tell me you are an arrogant worms fan and earn my respect for a long time
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)but the Canadian peso isn't worth too much, so between that and the post 9-11 unpleasantness of crossing the border, I think that pass-time is down right now. Canada is so multicultural, that I can't think of any Thanksgiving recipes that are uniquely Canadian, and the US shares every possible wild game animal, and similar agriculture that we have coast to coast.
I've actually never heard of the Arrogant Worms until now. They sound funny though, will look into them when I don't have to go to bed so damn early. You know how it is...

so i goggled them ran into an 'associated group at a meet' or something and it was arrogant worms
I wanna be a pirate on Saskatchewan
war of 1812 (i think)
and the ever famous 'sorry we're canadians' <<--written after a US commentator said they had too much canadian material (they are a canadian group)
LOL
i got 2 folders full on my mp3 player :-p

(8,976 posts)"All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin,
Come to God's own temple come-Raise a song of harvest home...."
That's how the Christians did it and I sang that song in 3rd grade LONG before it could mean much to me. But now as an old man I have given up their god but come to love these emotions....
It's harvest home and time to give thanks whatever joy life gives you and to celebrate even the little bits and pieces we managed to put away against the cold and the dark. Another cycle of the sun has come and gone and for many of us another chair or more may be empty at the table. Love those who have departed, cherish those that remain, and mostly be gentle on yourself because every life has it's hardships. May all find peace and forgiveness and may your turkey be moist. Happy thanksgiving to DUer's and to all a good night...
i love roll ya own holiday (including 'talk like a pirate day..and they didn't but it's FUN')
emotions and especially old ones and even more so....smells
smells are powerful reminders
Happy which ever to you and since i haven't welcomed you to the group
HI, welcome, pull up a chair, hang around, have a tea, beer, water, coffee, or what ever and shoot some gripes or rewards

(8,976 posts)...I won't join But I do read your group and expect I will be stopping by only occasionally as I no longer work. But as long as no one objects I may sometimes post if it feels I can contribute. Thanks Cat
w0nderer
(1,937 posts)you can, or not
and I for one like it being read, it's not only 'working' poor, we accept all, but DU needed some area for working poor to be safe, if you are on a limited income or something
i can't swear no one will not object but i know no one will kick/block before sending a du-mail hint to 'simmer down' ..fair nuff?

(5,235 posts)Particularly about people I know onluas pixels on the screen. Your "happy whatever" greeting just reminded me of that song. And the whole album is that funny. They've got a few samples at the link. That album and Sir Terry Pratchett's "Hogfather" have gotten me through many a war on Christmas.
Have a happy tomorrow!
w0nderer
(1,937 posts)i'm assuming you've read them all?
