(75,916 posts)I have opted not to pick a candidate to support. In large part, that is due to my own misbehavior in 2016. Not as an excuse, but as a reason, I was at the time quitting the "pain killers" (opiods) that I had been on for 13 years. I remember telling my youngest daughter that I'd likely be unpleasant for three days -- thinking that would be the path that going "cold turkey" would take. She responded, "Old Man, you've been miserable your whole life." Perhaps she was correct. Either way, it was a terrible time for me, and I lashed out at people for no reason.
Anyhow. I rarely post in this forum, but when I have, I've noted that I will support whoever the party nominates. I like all of our candidates, and will work as hard as these old bones allow for our nominee. I do not participate in many discussions here, and from this vantage point, I view many of them as toxic. I do not like the attacks on any of the candidates. Nothing good can come from them.

(29,257 posts)I read here, and have continued to do so, as a way of monitoring a certain type of temperature among a very small and specific type of Democrat (as typified by what remained here at DU after the last blowout).
I no longer think it has much relevance other than as a window into a kind of unique culture that exists here.
Anyway I stay away too. Toxicity and personal attacks of the kind found on Twitter abound here. So I just watch from afar.

When they finished, he said, "I never met a 6 year old who has mastered sarcasm before." The next year, Rubin Carter introduced her to a university audience for her "spirit."

(11,088 posts)Strong candidates win elections. I dont know about you, but I base a strong and weak candidate off their ability to win and track record of doing so. A strong candidate can run for president for the first time and win 22 primaries and caucuses. A weak candidate will run for president a third time after having one of the most prominent platforms possible, and still manage to come in 4th. Loyalty tests are not a legitimate basis for a candidate's viability.

Sorry man. A candidate who hires those people and can't (doesn't try to?) control the more recalcitrant part of his base is a major turn off for a lot of people. Let's see what happens in other states. As a speaker, even though I know he can't pay for half of the stuff he promises, I like Bernie. (8,312 posts)If anyone chose Trump, it'd be grounds for their suspension from the site.
And we're not *yet* at the "Rally Around the Nominee" time here, so people are allowed to express reasonable concerns about candidates/be in the "I want my candidate" mode that is driving them in canvassing. They don't HAVE to say they will support someone yet.
If this post had been about Bloomberg, TBH I might have hit the "refuse to answer one way or the other" because I still haven't wrapped my brain around us replacing a "Democrat" turned Republican billionaire with a Republican-turned Democratic billionaire who thinks cannabis is more addictive than other legal substances.
There will come a time on DU when such a "loyalty test" will not be necessary with any poll, because anything negative about the nominee will be against site rules. It's not necessary now, particularly with any candidate named.
And before that time comes, people will be given a mourning period to wrap their brains around the fact that our process, for better or worse, gave us this nominee and now we had better be ready to defend them against the barrage of attacks that will come, WHOEVER is chosen.

(28,834 posts)Personally, I've seen vitriol directed at nearly all of the candidates. Usually, it's whoever the front-runner is at the time.
Biden has been a primary target on DU since he entered the race.
When Warren briefly was ahead, she was the target, particularly that of Sanders supporters who saw her as a threat. When she later confronted Sanders on his debate claims, the attacks were immediate and rather vehement.
Since Buttigieg won Iowa, he's been the picture on the dartboard.
Sanders doesn't have a corner on the market where vitriol is concerned. There's plenty of it to go around.

(148,150 posts)Of what use is such a poll on DU, do you suppose? Since DU's rules forbid saying you'd vote for a non-Democratic candidate, who would vote in the poll for Trump?
What was your intention here? I voted that I'd vote for Sanders. That doesn't mean that I support him in the primaries. I don't. But, I've never voted for anyone but the Democratic nominee since my first presidential election in 1968. I never will.
So, your question is a silly one on DU. Sadly one poor DUer voted incorrectly. I hope he doesn't get kicked off the site due to your poll.
