Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWould you vote for Bernie?
I posted this in response to another thread with respect to Bernie:
He was my mayor once and I supported him. But I will never again after his antics in 2016. I KNOW that I am not alone, and Im a progressive and a life-long Dem. What does that say about Bernies chances with anti-Trump Republicans or independents?
Maybe Id hold my nose and vote for him to get rid of Trump, but a Sanders Presidency would be another 4-yr disaster and wed lose any chance at taking the Senate back. Sanders needs to return to Vermont and continue serving in the Senate. If he actually cared about the Country hed without question serve as a Democrat rather than as an Independent. Id like to see someone ask now if he would do that. Id like to see him squirm to avoid answering the question.
Forget any unenforceable pledge on DU or elsewhere you may have made to vote for the eventual nominee, I truly wonder what people here would do if Bernie becomes the nominee.
If your response is none of the above, what would you do?

The answer is yes, we all would vote for BS is he were the candidate.

(1,803 posts)To try to require someone to vote, no less vote for a particular candidate or party. Last I checked, you have a First Amendment right to vote, or not vote, and a right to vote for a candidate of your choosing. And how is the pledge going to be enforced? Ive talked to plenty of Dems not on this board who have indicated that they would consider writing in a candidate rather than cast a vote for Bernie. This is a fair question and its the elephant in the room.

(53,203 posts)So no one is saying anything about requiring anyone to vote or to vote for a particular candidate.
And there is no enforcement. It's an honor system.

And I'll be on youtube because of course I would be, because how awesome would that look? And I'd be carrying an I Voted! sign all the way. That's how much more enthusiastic I am than everyone else to vote for whoever it is.
I wouldn't mind except it's almost always the same people who were demanding their vote be earned in another election that shall not be named.

They say they wont vote for Trump, but instead will write in a candidate or not vote on the Presidential line if Bernie is the candidate. This troubles me for obvious reasons.

(30,332 posts)Do I like Sanders? Not one bit, but I will vote for him if he's the nominee. For the record, I'm not thrilled about Biden either. I think that these two guys are too old and should have stayed on the sides supporting other candidates. Sander is not even a Democrat, and his abrasive personality and policies will not go well in a general election. Biden is an affable guy, but a gaffe machine who at times says the stupidest things.
Regardless, anyone on our side would be a better option than the malevolent troll currently in the WH.

(3,131 posts)First do you consider any democratic nominee better than a republican in general and trump specifically.
Then are you enough on the ball to avoid violating the TOS.
Theres a lot of room between holding ones nose and enthusiasm so I assume that was behind the people selecting other options.

(1,568 posts)I say almost anyone, because I am sure someone would say "oh yeah? So between Trump and Zombie Hitler, you're going to choose Zombie Hitler?" So yeah, maybe in the event there a zombie hitler running against Trump, then I might consider Trump (or not voting, thus helping ensure the victory of Zombie Hitler) Although, that seems fairly unlikely outside of my twisted nightmares and post apocalyptic video game ideas. But really, if somehow Mitt Romney was running as a democrat against Trump, I would enthusiastically vote for Mitt. Nothing to do with Mitt, it's all about Trump.

Just that we behave ourselves and agree to support democrat candidates.

My vote for Sanders would not be "conditional," I would not "hold my nose" and vote for him. I'd vote for the Democratic candidate running against Trump, for that reason, and that's reason enough.
This is a one issue election for me.
I will vote for any Democratic candidate who is in a position to end the non-stop daily onslaught of bullshit we've had from Trump over the last 3+ years.
