be my top choice if she had more experience beyond the state house. I feel like someone in their upper 70s needs to select a 2nd that nobody can cast any doubt on their readiness to step into the job. Otherwise it's going to be a point of attack.
That's why I think Kamala is a better choice, although that's certainly something to have a discussion about. I believe in reagionality when it comes to politics and I think a VP choice from Georgia would help not only there but in Florida and NC too. I'd love to be able to get a VP who knows how to cook a mean Sweet Potato Pie. By that I mean changes to demographics have opened up a potential for a democratic "Southern Strategy", but I think you need a native southerner to help make that happen. Abrams could be able to do that.

However, Harris does have six years as the AG of a huge state and another 7 as DA in a major city. Not for nothing.

Her experiences of the 2018 Gubernatorial race in fighting Republican dirty tricks and voter suppression, not to mention being the founder of Fair Fight Action to fight Voter Suppression, brings an entirely relevant skillset.

(14,565 posts)There was a great post here the other day regarding the "total alignment" that Klobuchar brings to a ticket with Biden.
Everything is is just band-aid nonsense toward ideological contrast or making sure it's not two whites or two males on the ticket.
When there's a forced pairing it is blatantly obvious and ineffective. In particular I have no idea how anyone could want Stacey Abrams anywhere near that vice presidential spot. She adds nothing but potentially subtracts all over the place. Abrams lost among Trump voters 96-2. That is surreal. Nothing is 96-2. I've been doing this since 1992. It's virtually impossible to find a 96-2 in such a huge block but Stacey Abrams accomplished it. We are trying to persuade soft Trump voters, the ones who switched from Obama to Trump, not give them an easy excuse to remain with him.

(3,974 posts)She is an ideological clone of Biden so she doesnt help bring in progressives. She doesnt energize African Americans and she is from a solid blue state so she doesnt help flip a purple state.
BTW if your thought is that if Klobuchar becomes VP Al Franken will be appointed to her Senate seat, that is never going to happen.

As far as Abrams, experience doesnt matter. Never has or Trump wouldnt be President.

(8,089 posts)She's got it together, they have chemistry... and the way she helped deliver MN! My only caveat is, she's seen as a mod like Joe and a progressive would even out the ticket. Also seen as a moderate, Kamala would add charisma, but would she hurt him with AAs?

(14,565 posts)She repeatedly emphasized the correct points during the debates, that she has a history of pulling red voters. The numbers back it up. For example, Hillary lost white non-college educated men by 33% (63-30) in Minnesota 2016. Two years later Klobuchar managed 46% among the same group, losing by only 7% at 53-46. These days Democrats never receive 46% of that block. And this was in a more conservative electorate than 2016. The 2018 Minnesota electorate was 33% conservatives to 27% liberals while 2016 was 32% conservatives and 28% liberals.
Klobuchar rescued 17% of Trump voters in 2018, losing that block 82-17. That sounds bad until you compare it to anyone else. Literally anyone else. Many of our 2018 candidates received 5% or less of the Trump vote. The national House number was 8% of Trump voters supporting the Democrat. To more than double the national number is remarkable. Plus there was considerable ticket splitting in Klobuchar's favor. Tim Walz received only 9% of the Trump voters while winning the Minnesota governor's race on the same day.
I'm not going to stray from belief in preference over turnout. To oust an incumbent we need to double down on preference and ideology and logical geography.

Warren was raised in Oklahoma and is Senator from Massachusetts, got over 50 delegates before dropping out and a national poll showed her as the most popular second choice for president among Democratic voters.
