Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBiden is already ahead in the Primary popular vote by about 1.5 million votes.
It's still early in the primary season, too. The numbers will increase, as will the gap, as more primaries are held.
Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden, Jr. 7,303,032 37.72%
Bernard "Bernie" Sanders 5,858,189 30.26%
That is reflected in The Green Papers latest delegate count estimates, too:
Biden - 885
Sanders - 732

Our elections processes needs an enema.
The current system big money always wins.

(28,833 posts)Then why isn't the candidate who has raised more and spent more - in some states, 30 times more - winning?
That being said, we should get dark money out of politics. Start with Our Revolution.

(28,833 posts)So we really have no idea who the donors are or how much they've donated.
And neither do you. All we know is that they've received many donations exceeding the federal limits.
"The campaign finance act says groups established by federal officeholders or candidates cannot raise money for federal electoral activity that exceeds the limitations of the law. Those contributions are currently set at $2,800 for candidates and $5,000 for political action committees.
Our Revolution has taken in nearly $1 million from donors whose contributions exceeded those limits and whose identities it hasnt fully disclosed, according to tax filings for 2016, 2017 and 2018. Much of it came from donors who contributed six-figure sums.

(147,463 posts)as the Democratic nominee. That's what it sounds like to me. Senator Sanders is not going to be the 2020 Democratic nominee. That is clear at this point. It's time to shift to general election mode, actually. Can you do that?

People were laughing and laughing last night on MSNBC how Biden had essentially run no ads and had few rallies cuz he had no money.
If that's not grass roots support, then I don't know what is.

(1,138 posts)Also, at every stage of this campaign, Bernie has raised and spent more money than Biden.
Sometimes the blame lays with the actual candidate.

(147,463 posts)Biden was almost out of money by the time South Carolina voted. Most people were counting him out, but the voters in South Carolina spoke and he begin his rapid rise.
It wasn't money that led him to his current lead. It was voters. That's a grassroots thing, by definition.
Bernie just didn't turn out enough voters when it mattered.

(147,463 posts)As for money, Bernie and Bloomberg, who is no longer in the race, have spent way more than Biden, who was almost out of campaign funds until South Carolina.
What hasn't changed is the fact that voters make the decisions, and they're deciding for Biden. Bernie Sanders isn't getting the turnout of supporters he needed to win. Biden is.
So, yes, 1991 is the target. Biden will reach it before the convention.

(15,799 posts)Let him proceed for another week so more of his supporters have a chance to vote for him. It will become even more clear when Biden wins those states by wide margins that Bernie doesnt have a mathematical possibility of gaining the nomination. If Sanders doesnt drop out by then, Im going to be very disappointed in him.

(147,463 posts)Some will not, but they weren't really working on having a Democratic nominee in the first place. The Sanders campaign high level staff is made up of people who either did not vote in 2016 or voted for Jill Stein. That has been the largest flaw in the Sanders campaign this year. His grassroots is made up, in part, of people who are not Democrats at all, but are, rather, non-party-affiliated people on the far left, politically.
We are going to have to win without a small minority of Sanders supporters. Most people who were supporting him will vote for the Democratic nominee.
